❗️❗️❗️Due to the extreme heat this week, we have been contacting many of our clients to postpone procedures and appointments that are non urgent. If you do need to attend the hospital with your pet, please take these steps:
❌️ Do not walk your pet into the hospital. Even short walks for all pets out in the heat can be detrimental. Cat carriers and cold coats will not protect them.
✔️ Do come in an air conditioned car only. Public transport does not offer enough cooling.
✔️ Bring water with you, and ask for more, and a cool pad when you arrive.
⚠️ Animals at a higher risk of heat stroke are brachycephalic dogs and cats (short-nosed), elderly animals, small furries, and pets with thicker coats. In this heat though, all pets are at risk!
✅️ Contact us on 0800 777 1890, or on PetsApp to reschedule any appointments.
Please look after your pets and yourselves.
‼️IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ AND SHARE IF YOU HAVE AN APPOINTMENT BOOKED IN AT THE HOSPITAL‼️
☀️🐾 HOT WEATHER WARNING 🐾☀️
🌡️The temperatures are set to rise significantly over the coming days, and we want to help keep you and your pets safe. ❤️
🏥If you have a non-urgent appointment or routine operation booked with us, please contact the hospital on 0300 777 1890 to rearrange. Our team may be able to offer a remote consultation with a vet instead where appropriate. 📞💻
‼️Please take extra care if your pet is:
🐾Elderly
🐾 Overweight
🐾 A short-nosed (brachycephalic) breed of dog or cat
🥵These pets are at a much higher risk of heatstroke. Due to the increased risks in hot weather, we will only see brachycephalic pets face to face if their appointment is urgent or an emergency.
🏥We will also not be performing non-urgent airway/BOAS surgery or routine procedures on brachycephalic breeds during this period, as the risks associated with anaesthesia and recovery are higher in extreme heat.
🚗 If you do need to travel to the hospital, please:
✅ Use a vehicle with working air conditioning
❌ Avoid public transport if you can
💧 Bring water for both you and your pet
☂️ Bring an umbrella/parasol to provide shade
❄️ Bring a cooling mat for your pet to rest on
‼️Please remember:
🐶 Never leave pets in hot cars
🐕Keep walks short and during the cooler parts of the day
🐕🦺Use the 5 second pavement test, if you can’t comfortably keep your bare foot 🦶 on the pavement for 5 seconds, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws and they could suffer painful burns 🔥
🥵Watch for signs of heatstroke including excessive panting, weakness, collapse, or distress
💕Thank you for helping us keep your pets safe during this hot weather💕
