Some feedback from a participant of the peer mentoring course at HMP Wealstun. Currently, staff on site are preparing for the next cohort and have been going to meet the men on their units to introduce ourselves and what the course offers. So far, this has been received brilliantly and staff have built some strong relationships with prison staff and the men we have worked alongside🙂 More updates pending from this site and the brilliant work they are doing! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Pride Month is officially underway, and we celebrated in the most colourful way possible! 🌈✨

Our young people at HM YOI Werrington got stuck into a tie‑dye sock project — creating bright, bold designs that represent the full Pride flag. These socks will be donated to those facing homelessness, spreading warmth in more ways than one.

But the real heart of the session?
Creating a space where we could learn, celebrate, and champion the LGBTQI+ community. We’re committed to making Werrington a place where everyone belongs, and activities like this help us build understanding, empathy, and pride.

🌈 Happy Pride Month! 🌈

Today marks the beginning of Pride Month — a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, honour the progress made towards equality, and recognise the work that still lies ahead.

Pride is about authenticity, inclusion, respect, and creating spaces where everyone feels valued and empowered to be themselves. Diverse perspectives make our workplaces, communities, and society stronger.

This month, and throughout the year, let’s continue to support equality, challenge discrimination, and champion environments where everyone can thrive without fear of judgement.

Wishing everyone a meaningful and joyful Pride Month.🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

Young People Leading Positive Change ✨

We are incredibly proud of our team at HM YOI Werrington, who have raised an amazing £122.81 through their two most recent social action projects.

What makes this achievement even more special is that the young people were the driving force behind every stage of these projects. From developing the ideas and planning the activities, to creating and producing all of the items that were sold, they demonstrated creativity, commitment, and teamwork throughout.

The young people also chose where the money would go, selecting Douglas Macmillan Hospice as the recipient of their fundraising efforts. Their decision reflects the compassion and community spirit they have shown from start to finish.

A huge well done to everyone involved. These projects are a fantastic example of young people using their skills, initiative, and determination to make a positive difference for others.⭐️⭐️⭐️

An update from our team at at HM YOI werrington…

Recently at HM YOI Werrington we have being running sessions on friendships, within this we explored what makes a real friend. Their answers were powerful: trust, loyalty, honesty, someone who shows up and keeps you accountable.

We also had some straight-talking conversations about negative influences—the people who hype poor choices, disappear when things get tough, or pull you back into the same cycles. We named the red flags, talked about boundaries, and practiced how to say no without burning every bridge.

To everyone preparing for release: your environment will test you. Choose the friends who respect your goals, not the ones who risk them. Protect your peace, protect your progress, and remember—your circle shapes your future. Surround yourself with people who want to see you win.⭐️🤞🏼✨

An update from HM YOI Wetherby✨✨✨

At Wetherby, we now have multiple learners who have completed their DIRF awareness course, and the feedback received recently has been nothing but positive.

“Again, just want to say thank you so much for such a proactive and committed approach. We really do appreciate your support and proactive drive with all things Equalities” - Head of Wetherby equalities team

A short impact story...

At the start of his course, HU was quite defensive and didn’t understand why his language and behaviour was having a negative impact on his relationships with staff. HU was very arrogant and believed that he could say and do what he likes with no consequence. Now, he understands why staff react the way they do and the negative consequences this can have on his engagement with them. He is more reflective and has engaged in a range of discussions surrounding discrimination, particularly about gender/sex, and is beginning to understand why he shouldn’t say the things he does. HU is more aware of how his behaviour and language can be interpreted and how he should behave going forward. Since April 14th, HU has only had 3 recorded instances of inappropriate behaviour toward staff and has now maintained his gold level IEP for the first time in months. Unit staff state that they have noticed a positive shift in behaviour for the young person, which is amazing news.

Great work guys ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
