Founded in 1902, The Lyric Club is Glasgow’s longest running amateur theatre group 🎭✨ In the 1930s it was decided to produce something different.

The Lyric Club, formerly known as Glasgow College of Music Opera Society, was founded by Allan McBeth, a distinguished Glasgow Musician. In the early years the club concentrated on Opera Bouffe of which Mr McBeth was a devotee. Fashions in musicals change and over the years which have followed, the club has sought to keep pace with the times, staging a wide variety of shows - some for the first time in Glasgow!

💜 💰 WE DID A THING 💰💜

Before we move on to our next production and charity, we are absolutely delighted to announce that our final total for our charity donation to Alzheimer Scotland for our 2025/26 season was an amazing £7,443.50 🎉👏

This incredible total was made possible thanks to the generosity and support of so many people on our fundraising journey - from taking part in the Glasgow Kiltwalk, to our bake sales, and collections throughout show week for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang ✨

Alzheimer Scotland does vital work supporting people living with dementia, their families and carers, while also helping to raise awareness and fund research into this heartbreaking condition. The Lyric Club are proud to have been able to support such an important cause. 💜

On 14th June, we were absolutely honoured to be invited to perform at our oldest living member Janie Williamson’s 100th birthday party 🎂

‘Well-kent’ Lyric faces gathered to sing for Janie some of her favourite songs from her favourite musicals and also offered some old Lyric anecdotes 🥰

Janie has been a member of The Lyric Club since 1960, joining initially as a performer, then joining the committee and by the 1980s she led the Club and became President for 14 years. Following this role, she was Secretary and kept things running smoothly for many years and then also received the title of Life Member and to mark her longstanding hard-work for the Club, Honorary Vice President. 🎖️

It is coincidental that Janie herself helped the Club celebrate it’s centenary year in 2002, and led the organising of the celebrations in Glasgow City Chambers, and she has now achieved a remarkable centenary of her own 🥹

To commemorate Janie, who has worked tirelessly for the club, shown dedication and commitment over the years, we presented her with the ‘Allan McBeth award’ this season (named after the founder of The Lyric Club) at her party 🏆

Here’s to you, Janie! 🥂 You are so deserving of this award and a living legend! 🌟
