Zainab and the Garden of Tawakkul
In a gentle, sunlit village filled with the soft rustling of trees and a peaceful stillness that whispered the remembrance of ALLAH, and the quiet remembrance of ALLAH, there lived a young girl named Zainab. She was only eight years old, yet her heart was filled with a light so pure and radiant that it reflected deep faith, sincerity, and love for her Most Merciful Lord.
Dearest Zainab was simple and modest, precious in her ways and beloved in her presence. She wore her little white hijab with care, sat with beautiful manners, and spoke with kindness that comforted every heart. But what made her truly special was her deep Tawakkul — her complete trust in ALLAH, Al-Wakeel — The Best Disposer of Affairs.
“And whoever relies upon ALLAH – then He is sufficient for him.”
(Surah At-Talaq 65:3)
And whoever puts their trust in ALLAH, then He alone is sufficient for them.
Every morning, she would sit with the noble Qur’an, tracing its blessed words with her small fingers, reciting softly, with a voice as gentle as a whisper of Nur — Light, as though speaking directly to her magnificent Creator, ALLAH is Al-Aleem (The All-Knowing), and ALLAH is Al-Baseer (The All-Seeing). She believed with all her heart that ALLAH sees, hears, and knows everything — and that He always chooses what is best.
One day, a strong and restless wind swept through the village, moving with a force that stirred both the earth and the hearts within it. The skies turned grey, and the air felt heavy. The villagers grew worried for their crops, their homes, and their gardens.
This worry reflected what people naturally feel uneasy about — even when they do not yet see the wisdom behind it, for hearts often tremble before they understand the mercy written within events.
“Perhaps you dislike a thing and ALLAH makes therein much good.”
(Surah An-Nisa 4:19)
Perhaps you dislike something, yet ALLAH places within it abundant goodness.
Dearest Zainab’s small garden, which she lovingly cared for with her dear and beloved parents, began to move under the force of the wind. Her favourite apple tree bent and swayed, its branches moving as though it might break, yet it remained held by the unseen will of ALLAH.
Her beloved mother looked concerned, her heart quietly reflecting. Her beloved father stood calmly, watching the grey skies above, thinking deeply.
But dearest Zainab’s heart remained utterly calm, resting in complete trust and serene reliance upon ALLAH.
With a soft smile, she gently held her beloved mother’s hand and said:
“Dearest Mummy, ALLAH is Al-Wakeel — The ultimate Disposer of Affairs. When we truly entrust our affairs to Him, He cultivates goodness even from what we cannot yet see.”
Her sincere words were simple, yet they carried a deep truth, a wisdom far greater than her tender years.
That evening, as the wind moved gently throughout the village, echoing through every home and every heart, dearest Zainab quietly went to her prayer mat. She sat with humility, raised her gently small hands, and made a sincere duʿa (supplication), calling upon ALLAH:
“O ALLAH, You are the Most Kind (Ar-Ra'uf), and the Most Merciful (Ar-Rahman) and the Most Wise (Al-Hakeem). I place all my trust in You. Please protect our homes, our gardens, and all the people. Grant us what is best, even if we do not understand it, for You alone know what is goodness for us.”
Her heart was utterly calm and peaceful, wrapped in a quiet Nur (light) of certainty. She did not worry at all, because she always knew — when one relies upon ALLAH, the heart finds rest.
“Sufficient for us is ALLAH, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.”
(Surah Al-Imran 3:173)
ALLAH is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.
The next morning, the village awoke to a calm and golden sunrise, as though the earth itself had been gently reassured. The winds had completely settled. The air was fresh and filled with quiet peace.
Dearest Zainab stepped outside, her heart light and hopeful.
To her beautiful surprise, her garden looked more radiant than before, renewed with a hidden blessing from ALLAH.
The wind had gently cleared away all the dry, lifeless leaves, making space for fresh blossoms to grow — a mercy placed within what once seemed uncertain.
“For indeed, with difficulty comes ease. Indeed, with difficulty comes ease.”
(Surah Ash-Sharh 94:5–6)
Indeed, with hardship comes ease. Indeed, with hardship comes ease.
Her flowers stood bright and renewed, glowing under the sunlight, as though smiling in gratitude.
And her apple tree…
It had not broken.
Instead, the wind had caused only the ripest apples to fall — leaving them gently scattered upon the ground, ready to be gathered, as a Rizq (provision) from ALLAH prepared with care.
Dearest Zainab’s eyes sparkled with delight, filled with gratitude and wonder.
She turned towards her precious and beloved parents and said softly:
“Subhan Allah — Glory be to ALLAH … ALLAH gave us better than what we hoped for. ALLAH is indeed Great, Allahu Akbar — ALLAH is the Greatest, His mercy is beyond what we imagine.”
Together, they collected the apples, filling baskets not only for themselves but for their neighbours too, spreading kindness and barakah — blessing throughout the village. What had seemed like a moment of uncertainty became a moment of generosity, gratitude, and a beautiful blessing.
The village elder watched dearest Zainab with a gentle smile and said:
“This young girl understands a treasure many forget — whoever truly trusts ALLAH will never be left without goodness, for ALLAH never leaves the one who relies upon Him.”
From that day on, the people of the village remembered her wise words. They began to place their worries in the care of ALLAH, just as dearest Zainab did, with hearts more at peace than before.
And Zainab?
"She passed her days with simplicity and modesty—reciting the glorious Qur’an, helping her beloved parents, sharing with others, and placing her complete trust in her Supreme Lord; for ALLAH is Al-Lateef (The Most Gentle) and Al-Kareem (The Most Generous)."
Her heart remained peaceful, her gentle smile sincere, and her faith unshaken, steady like a light that never fades.
And the lesson she carried was clear and beautiful:
When a believer places their trust in ALLAH with sincerity, patience, and hope, ALLAH opens doors of goodness in ways beyond imagination.
Even in what we do not understand, there is hidden mercy.
Even in what we do not expect, there is ease.
And for the one who relies upon ALLAH — He is always enough.
“And whoever relies upon ALLAH – then He is sufficient for him.”
(Surah At-Talaq 65:3)
And whoever puts their trust in ALLAH, then He alone is sufficient for them.
ALLAH is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.
