Majority of the patients at Great Ormond Street are under the age of 2, some of whom have been admitted there since birth. Occasionally older children with chronic health conditions have been readmitted to the hospital. The continuous challenge is to meet the needs for expansion to provide the best care to its young patients. We aim to provide a support fund for the medical staff and patients alon
g with their families, in the hope that we can make a difference by aiding in the purchase of tools and equipment so the staff can better serve the patients. The children do not understand why they cannot go home and just want to run around and be happy, it is our duty to try and put a smile on these young faces and aid the medical team involved to carry on doing their excellent work. We are a team of students and young professionals and wish to build the fund through similar young, professional volunteers and supporters. We have a duty to show that we are aware of the challenges being faced every day by these brave babies and recognise that we are not that young anymore. The current small but dedicated team behind the fund have done a fantastic job so far and we achieved our first target of buying all the babies on the Bear and Flamingo (cardiac) wards presents for Christmas. We are now focussing on the next target which is to raise £14,000 in order to buy equipment which will prove to be invaluable. The money will be used to buy 2 Fabian machines, (details can be seen here –http://www.inspiration-healthcare.com/__Snapper/FileViewer.asp?fileID=28767940), a piece of equipment which is used to make it easier for babies to breathe so that they can relax and sleep without difficulty. Gurpal Singh Hunjan the founder of Happy to Help will attempt a 10 day Trek along the Great Wall of China in October 2014 as well as attempting to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in February 2015, with all money raised going towards the fund. We would like to make as many young adults and professionals aware of Happy to Help, and believe that we as a community can increase the exposure to the fund and our team primarily to inspire others to join in, or to donate and support. Thank you for reading and please do not hesitate to contact us.
