Real prevention starts with understanding the consequences. That is where education comes in.

Would you take out a mortgage without knowing the interest rates? Probably not. So why are our kids not being taught the "interest rates" of life before temptation arrives?

One of the most powerful outcomes from our Before You Commit programme shows exactly why this matters:

Young people’s awareness of criminal record consequences increased from 40% to 83% following our sessions.

This shift is vital. Many of the young people we work with aren't actually "choosing" a life of crime, they are making decisions without fully understanding the fine print.

They’re often told about the money, the protection, or the status. They aren’t told about the long-term impact on their education, their ability to get a job, their right to travel, or their future opportunities.

At Khadys Dream, we don’t rely on scare tactics.

Instead, we create space for honest conversations and real-life examples. We use facilitators with lived experience who can speak authentically about what happens after the choice is made.

This shift in understanding is the foundation of prevention:
Better information
Stronger decision-making
Fewer young people are entering harm blindly.

These insights come directly from our latest Impact Report, reflecting feedback from over 1,000 young people engaged across our sessions.

Prevention isn’t just about telling young people what not to do. It’s about making sure they have the facts they need to empower themselves to make the right choice.

"How is your lovely mum doing?" Exploitation looks like caring...

We’re teaching young people to spot "red flags," but the problem is that those flags often look like "care". It starts with a gift. A bit of extra attention. Someone who "finally understands" you.

For Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week, we’re calling out the reality: manipulation is often disguised as care, status, or belonging. By the time it turns into violence, the grooming is already deep-rooted.

At Khadys Dream, we’re seeing the human cost of this every day:

17,100 of these involved grooming and group-based coercion.

Roughly 1 in 20 children will face this before they turn 18.

We have to move from reaction to prevention.

We’re working in schools and communities to give young people the tools to spot the "red flags" before things escalate. By combining lived experience with honest dialogue, we can help them see through the manipulation.

Education is the best shield we’ve got. Let’s stop exploitation before it becomes abuse.

Our first resolution: making sure no young person is left in the dark about their own safety...

We recently began the year by visiting Capital City College, Tottenham, delivering a workshop on exploitation and the warning signs to look out for.

This opened discussions about risks, realities, and viewpoints that are frequently overlooked. Many of the young people told us that this was their first real understanding of what exploitation can look like.

Our work in Tottenham is vital because the reality on the ground is tough. Last year alone, Haringey saw over 28,000 crimes, keeping it in London’s top 10 high-crime boroughs. Even with some recent improvements, the crime rate here is still 16% higher than the rest of the city, which is why we can't afford to slow down.

Starting the year in this way strongly reflects the message behind National Crime Prevention Month (UK). At Khadys Dream, we believe crime prevention isn’t about fear or punishment, it’s about education, opportunity, and giving young people the full picture before choices are made.

We intend to keep fostering these discussions, strengthening connections, and producing proactive, educational work throughout the remainder of the year.

Happy New Year from the Khadys Dream Team!
