An article in The Times has highlighted the mess we are failing to confront when it comes to cancer care.

People with red-flag cancer symptoms are having their referrals for secondary care bounced back.

The article highlighted a survey by Pulse of more than 700 GPs, which showed a quarter of referrals for secondary care were rejected and returned.

Even worse, more than a third of the bounce back referrals then asked GPs to do work outside of their remit.

We have a system that is fundamentally broken and patching it up is futile. A new approach is required to save lives and stop the rot.

The new Health Minister, Yvette Cooper, must get a grip. Yesterday.

Legend alert! This week we want to celebrate Andy and Jane Tudor for completing 470 miles of their 500-mile walking challenge for .

The determined duo have been heading out early each morning to beat the heat and are now within touching distance of their goal.

Andy, who is a Trustee for Radiotherapy UK, was diagnosed with a large brain tumour in 2017. He underwent surgery, and then radiotherapy four years later for a recurrence.

Since then he has devoted countless hours to raising awareness of radiotherapy and supporting other cancer patients through his charitable work.

Well done Andy and Jane!

Happy Saturday Milers!

Well past the 100,000 mile mark and still smiling. 😀

Sadly, cancer patients are bombarded by scam artists, unsolicited advice and untested remedies. They are told that sugar causes cancer, and infrared light and apricot kernels can cure it.

A quiet, safe place to read, watch or view trusted information is our way of helping people block out the noise.

And it’s your participation, support, fundraising donations and sponsorship that makes this possible – so a huge thank you from all of us at Radiotherapy UK.

"Archie Goodburn’s diagnosis, aged 22, with multiple inoperable brain tumours, is cancer at its boiling point worst. Terrorising young people, affecting more and more of us, and outrunning a government approach that has been asleep at the wheel for more than a decade."

Charity Director Sarah Quinlan MBE reflects on the contrast between the young athlete's viral plea and the recent findings of a huge cancer patient survey by NHSE.

We were recently honoured to be the charity of choice, along with Cornwall Air Ambulance, for a golf day fundraiser held by our Patron Bryan Robson OBE and football legend Keith O’Neill.

And we will never forget it!

Peninsula UK and Condron Concrete Works were the amazing co-sponsors, and helped everyone have an absolute blast.

We are also incredibly grateful to Maison Mirabeau - Créateur de Rosé for sponsoring delicious wine for the after dinner tables; and for sponsoring a hole.

Not only did this day make a huge difference in safeguarding the future of our charity, but we were so grateful that everyone taking part wanted to know more about how we campaign for a brighter future for UK cancer patients.

Here are some of our favourite memories from a truly epic day – made possible by Bryan and Keith, a huge team, our one in a million Trustee Andy Tudor, those who came along and took part, our lovely sponsors and the beautiful voices of The Oggymen!
