Happy International Day of Education! 📚

Every child deserves the chance to reach their full potential, and education is the key to unlocking it.

At Street Child, we work to create inclusive, safe, and sustainable learning spaces—even in the most challenging environments. From building schools in low-resource areas to supporting education in emergencies, we’re committed to giving children the opportunity to thrive.

Our focus isn’t just on classrooms but on empowering teachers too. Our programmes help them deliver impactful lessons and foster safe, supportive environments where learning can flourish.

Education is a fundamental human right, and we’re on a mission to ensure that every child is safe, in school, and learning. Today and every day, we are grateful for your support!

Street Child Bangladesh was delighted to participate in an insightful national-level symposium named 'White Paper and Thereafter: Economic Management, Reforms and National Budget' for Bangladesh this Saturday, 18 Jan 2025 organised by the White Paper Bangladesh 2024 in collaboration with Citizen's Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC).

The honourable adviser Mr. SK Bashir Uddin, Ministry of Commerce and Mr Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, the Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority - BIDA were the guests of honour; several senior government officers, academicians, researchers and private sector policy experts remarked on the white paper led by Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya.

The publication of the "White Paper on State of the Bangladesh Economy: Dissection of a Development Narrative" has sparked a lively in-depth discussion about the challenges highlighted in the document and the recommendations it has come up with for the current interim government of Bangladesh.

Especial thanks to the authors who meticulously worked behind this and appreciate the recommendations for the government to go for priority-based reforms. We strongly believe the white paper's findings and recommendations will widely help to reshape the policies, foster macroeconomic stability and ultimately make them more meaningful & viable for the marginalised communities across the country 🇧🇩

Street Child Bangladesh has participated in an exciting learning workshop event named ‘Play to Learn: Play with a purpose’ organised by BRAC, New York University, International Rescue Committee and Sesame Workshop today at the Brac centre supported by The LEGO Foundation. The main objective of the workshop was to share the long-standing ‘PLAY to learn’ model insights working with the ECD [Early Childhood Development] group, collaborating with the partners and see how this model can be scaled up widely across the world 🌍

SC Bangladesh can see potential areas to work collaboratively with the partners here following the PLAY to learn model and also reasonably to see how our PLAY 2.0 research study findings can complement here.

Thanks to your support, Street Child was one of the first responders in the hardest hit communities around Mecufi, working hand-in-hand with UNICEF Mozambique to provide immediate, life-saving aid for those in need.

Most recently, we've been able to:

🚿 Distribute 310 emergency survival kits (shelter, WASH, hygiene kits, and kitchen essentials) to families, supporting over 1,200 children.

⚽ Support over 2,100 children through child-friendly spaces, where recreational activities and sports are helping them heal and regain a sense of normalcy.

🚽 Provide 310 young women and girls with dignity kits, including culturally-appropriate menstrual products, restoring comfort and confidence.

Thank you for making this response possible. To learn more or donate, visit https://www.street-child.org/emergencies/emergency-fund/

Street Child Bangladesh participated in the CDs [Country Directors] meeting of INGOs in Gulshan, Dhaka in Sept 2024, coordinated by NGO Platform. The main focus of the meeting was to understand the perspectives of the INGOs scoping up the growth opportunities, support the ongoing Rohingya crisis especially the new Rohingya influx, effective advocacy towards localisation, mitigate operational challenges etc including the new interim government coordination.

We, Street Child particularly focused on the localisation approach, presented our ongoing initiatives and committed ourselves to accelerate the localisation. A bunch of CDs and NGO platform coordinators appreciated our initiatives and requested to continue support to the local & community-based organisations.

Hope you're having a great day to start off the week! 👌

Street Child Bangladesh conducted the 'PLAY 2.0' full-scale training with the data enumerators in Cox's Bazar in Nov 2024. RTI International supported us in clarifying tool-related queries and practices. Our enumerators did amazing work with coding and achieved 89% agreement on average in the classroom video observation and during the field test visit. We were so happy with the inter-reliability performance and strongly believe that our enumerators are going to collect quality full data for the full-scale data collection.

Join us to wish them all the best for this exciting research work and can't wait to share the long-standing findings as soon as it's accomplished!

Street Child Bangladesh has kicked off a new programme in Barishal and Satkhira region, lead by a women-led local partner AVAS with the funding support from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The ultimate goal is to increase the economic resilience of climate vulnerable women as well as enhancing their capacity to advocate for climate change and action areas.

Congrats to all the team members who worked from the back & front and we look forward to bringing positive changes to the marginalised community across the world 🌍
