A group of us had a wonderful afternoon yesterday when we visited Holwood Flower Farm. After hearing all about her plot when Jayne presented to us in May, it was wonderful to see and explore this little piece of paradise and admire the beautiful blooms! After a tour round, we were treated to tea and some very yummy cakes and scones! A huge thank you to Jayne and her husband for hosting us and of course Hector and Flure their lovely dogs. It was really nice spending time with members and friends relaxing in the countryside.

Join us on Wednesday 22 July, when we’ll be celebrating our Emerald Anniversary - 55 years! Graham Harmer has prepared a special demonstration on the theme “Rooted in Green”, celebrating 55 years of friendship and flowers. This will be held at 8pm (arrival from 7.30pm) in the halls at the Emmanuel URC, The Grove, West Wickham BR4 9JS.
To add a touch of fun to the celebration, we’re inviting everyone to wear a splash of green if possible, even a scarf or brooch. Just a little hint of emerald to help us mark this milestone together.

Back in May we enjoyed a lovely evening with Jayne Crear of Holwood Flowers. Jayne shared how she founded her flower farm, drawing on her background in garden design, horticulture, and floristry. She spoke about her commitment to growing sustainably cultivated British seasonal flowers, all nurtured with care in the fields and polytunnels of Keston.

Jayne also shared photos showcasing how she uses her flowers once they leave the field, creating natural, design‑led arrangements for weddings, parties, and funeral tributes, as well as supplying local florists. Her passion, eye for design, and thoughtful approach were clear throughout, and beautifully demonstrated when she created a sample bridal bouquet using her own freshly picked stems.

At our next meeting we're looking forward to welcoming Jayne Crear and hearing all about her flower farm.
