Friends of Bentley Priory Nature Reserve

Friends of Bentley Priory Nature Reserve page for the Friends of Bentley Priory Nature Reserve in Stanmore, Northwest London.

We’re the Friends of Bentley Priory Nature Reserve – a group of people who enjoy and care about Bentley Priory as an accessible open space full of rare natural habitats and key wildlife species. The Friends help to make sure Bentley priory LNR remains an official Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and try to protect it from harm. One way we do this is by feeding into the committee that de

cides how Harrow Council will manage the reserve. We also offer events and information to make everyone aware of this precious jewel on our doorstep.

A request from one of our followers around Bentley Priory:
Our cat Junior has been missing from Chenduit Way HA7 3NX in Stanmore for a week. We know he tends to visit the outskirts of the Reserve near the entrances around Chenduit Way and Bentley Way, so are asking those who visit the Nature Reserve/live around the area to keep an eye out for him! He’s a very friendly cat and is neutered and microchipped, and never goes very far so we’re worried he’s either got stuck somewhere or has maybe been mistaken for a stray (no collar) and taken. We miss him a lot!

Please contact 07909150480 if you spot him.

Our pond dipping event at the Dragonfly Ponds in Spring Meadow got rained out this afternoon! However, before packing up we did find a Broad Bodied Chaser dragonfly just emerging from his old skin (exuviae) ready to fly away.

We’d like to say a big thank you to all volunteers who joined the Outfall Safari sessions in partnership with ZSL Marine and Freshwater Conservation in the Silk Stream catchment earlier this year. 💙

📊11 citizen scientists took part in the project, helping survey 10km of river channels of the Edgware Brook. 174 outfalls were identified, with 113 scoring 0, which is a good sign, and at least ten presenting heavy signs of pollution and being reported to Thames Water.

👨‍🔬👩‍🔬Citizen science initiatives like this one are crucial in gathering valuable data and promoting change. We’re always looking for citizen scientists to join our projects.

💦Action for Silk Stream (AfSS) is a major £6m, partnership project led by Barnet and Harrow Council’s. It aims to tackle the effects of climate change by making space for water, reducing flooding, and improving water quality in the Silk Stream catchment for the benefit of communities and the environment. The 6-year flood resilience project launched in 2021.

🗣️As we reach the halfway mark of the AfSS project, we want to hear from residents and business to help inform our mid-project evaluation. Please let us know your thoughts on project delivery and our work with local communities so far.

Complete the online questionnaire and help us further shape the project: https://ow.ly/Xmxp50TKFgc 😉
