One of the great things about being part of the Stow Roses WI are the sub groups which cover a range of activities for members to enjoy. The Literary Roses is the Stow Roses book club who meet monthly. They are currently reading 'When we were orphans' by Kazuo Ishiguro.

At this month's meeting the Stow Roses enjoyed a fab session from local weaver Carolyn Abbott. She showed us different weaving techniques and beautiful examples of her own work as well as samples from other cultures. We then had a go on the weaving looms.

…and just like that we turned 10!

Ten years ago today was our inaugural meeting after months of planning to get Stow Roses up and running.

Our first home, Tavern on the Hill, certainly weren’t prepared for the 200+ local women who descended upon the pub, much to the bemusement of the locals.

Since then we’ve had 7 presidents, 7 secretaries, 1 treasurer, numerous fantastic committee members and a whole lot of wonderful members who make Stow Roses what it is today.

On Wednesday we had the wonderful talking to us about her role as a humanist celebrant. As part of her talk two volunteers did ‘tying the knot’ which is part of a humanist wedding ceremony. It was a wonderful talk and it made a few of us wanted to get married (or remarried!)

Our July meeting sees ex Stow Roses member aka The Happy Celebrant giving us a talk about her role as a Humanist Celebrant and how she got into it.

Zoom - during the pandemic we moved all our meetings to zoom so members were still able to get access to monthly meetings. We still continue to use zoom as we are now doing hybrid meetings which gives members more flexibility in terms of attending meetings
