The Separated Child Foundation

The Separated Child Foundation Registered charity which supports separated children in practical ways Imagine having to flee your homeland because of war, terror or persecution.

Imagine being a child or young person. Imagine not having your parents with you because they were killed before you left or were unable to leave. Imagine arriving in a strange country, seeking asylum, completely alone. Imagine having absolutely nothing. Separated children and young people experience the double trauma of separation not only from their homeland, culture and natural environment but a

lso from the adults in their family who gave them care. The Separated Child Foundation offers practical, emotional and social support to separated children and young people in Britain up to the age of 21. It also engages in educational activities that raise awareness of the needs of separated children and encourage positive responses to them.

With 218 other members of the Together With Refugees coalition we’re asking new Prime Minister to deliver an asylum system that is humane, well managed and fair.

The young people we work with every day are ready to contribute and to rebuild their lives as our neighbours, colleagues and friends. But the current system is stacked against them.

It’s time to focus on what unites us, to build common ground and to extend dignity, humanity and hope.

It was fantastic to be able to invite Phosphoros Theatre to join our Club Class in London during Refugee Week 🧡

For this interactive session our young people were encouraged to step out of their comfort zones and use their imaginations. Working individually or in pairs, a simple red scarf became a picnic blanket, a violin, a football, a tightrope and a fence! It was an opportunity for the young people to express themselves creatively and 'perform' their unique perspectives to the larger group.

We were really proud of everyone in the group for giving the activities a shot. And thanks to Phosphoros, our youth worker Michelle and our Club Class partner Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers for helping us celebrate Refugee Week!

It was fab to spend time with long-time supporters and friends esynergy yesterday. Thanks to everyone who took time out of their working day to help create 100 arrival packs for separated children.

Each pack, filled with toiletries, clothing and other essentials, will make a practical difference to the young person who receives it. Just as importantly, each pack sends a clear message of care and welcome.

Thank you for having us! ❤️

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our inaugural Refugee Week film screening London Film School last night. We were proud to show two beautiful shorts, Hayat and Infancia Desterrada, followed by feature length film Dreamers.

During the evening, in celebration of this year's theme of 'Courage', our guests reflected on what courage means to them, and wrote messages of en'courage'ment for other each to pull out of a jar as they left the venue. Bringing together staff, volunteers, packing project partner representatives, existing supporters and some new friends, it was an opportunity to show solidarity through art and community. 💪

Huge thanks to Refugee Week for curating these amazing films for free screening between 15-21 June.

We were determined to finish this week on a positive note so it was great to have these amazing volunteers from TCC Foundation to help us achieve that!

The team prepped and packed thousands of items for our welcome bags and sleep kits for separated children. These packs offer comfort at a really tough time, and are the first step to restoring dignity and autonomy for the children and young people who receive them.

Huge thanks to everyone from TCC and, as ever, to Big Yellow Self Storage for hosting us.

Wishing everyone a safe and healthy weekend and a good 🧡

What better way to finish than by getting together with our old friends for a packing session?! 🧡

Members of the congregation and local community joined us to create 200 sleep packs for separated children seeking sanctuary in the UK. It was fabulous to see multiple generations of volunteers working as a team to put together packs containing tools to help children get a good night's sleep.

We'll be back in Croydon in September - send us a DM if you'd like more details nearer the time!
