The Sick Children's Trust

The Sick Children's Trust Hospital can be a lonely and scary place for anyone, but especially a child.
(491)

The Sick Children’s Trust is the charity that provides warm, welcoming ‘Homes from Home’ where families with a sick child in hospital can stay close to their side. By providing families with somewhere to stay together just minutes from their child they have one less thing to worry about. It costs The Sick Children’s Trust £40 to support a family for one night. £40 gives a family so much more than

just a roof over their heads when their child is in hospital. £40 gives them someone to talk to, and a calm place to rest with their family.

Treetop House received a fantastic £2,500 donation from Donaldson Filtration Solutions after Paul nominated us at his work.

We supported Paul and his partner Helen at our 'Home from Home' when their daughter, Romilly, underwent spinal surgery so they could always be close to her side during her recovery.

Paul, Helen, Romilly and Tristan visited Treetop House to make the donation. Thank you so much for your support, it was so nice to see you all again.

"For the longest time, we didn’t know what was happening or why Luca was so ill. We hadn’t even thought about where we would stay in Newcastle, and I was fully prepared to sleep in a chair next to him. Thankfully, the nurses had already arranged for us to stay at Crawford House.

"It was such a massive weight off our shoulders. The ‘Home from Home’ provided us with a space to rest, shower, and prepare a quick meal, all while being just a short walk away from Luca. Without it, I would have exhausted myself at the hospital, and Dan would have had to commute daily, which would have been extremely tiring and dangerous, with his mind being on Luca."

Sacha Boyd, Luca's mum

"While we were waiting for George to go down for his surgery two lovely ladies from The Sick Children’s Trust came and told us we could stay at Acorn House throughout his recovery, completely free of charge. It meant the world to us, staying so close to George’s bedside meant we could get back to him quickly should he need us.

"Acorn House gave us a place where we could process everything in private and be able to support each other through an extremely difficult and emotional time."

Emma Hollingsworth, George's mum

Our extremely brave supporters have been raising funds for our 'Homes from Home' through skydives!

Rob and his team of 12 completed their skydive 🪂 raising £2,960 to support us and the other charities that helped his family while his granddaughter, Nancy, was undergoing heart surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Amanda and her son, Joe, also bravely took the plunge, raising £955 to help us keep more families together with their seriously ill children. Amanda underwent multiple surgeries as a child, so she knows the difference it makes to have your parents close by. That experience inspired them to take on a skydive.

Thank you all so much for your support. It will make a world of difference to our families and their seriously ill children.

Lacey Knowles raised a fantastic £1,042 to support our 'Homes from Home' in memory of her nephew, Oscar, who sadly passed away when he was just 15 days old.

Oscar was born with are genetic disorder called ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency (OTC). The condition affects the body’s ability to remove ammonia from the bloodstream and just hours after he was born, Oscar was transferred from Calderdale Hospital in Halifax to intensive care at Leeds Children’s Hospital.

We supported Oscar's dad, Joe, at Eckersley House so he was always by his side during his time in Leeds before he sadly passed away.

Pivot Group Academy student Lacey wanted to support our 'Home from Home' so more families can stay close to their seriously ill children during their treatment.

"Without the help of The Sick Children’s Trust, we wouldn’t have been able to stay and look after our son whilst he was having his treatment at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Magnolia House was just three minutes away from where Joel was healing, giving us peace of mind and a safe place where me and Andrew could stay, even though we were miles away from home. It was the most amazing place.

"I don’t know what we would have done without it, and the charity asked for nothing in return. They were there for us when we really needed it, removing a huge weight from our shoulders by giving us a warm roof over our heads. Having a place where we could rest and process everything that was going on allowed us to be at our best for our little man."

Sarah Thornton, Joel's mum

At Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS FT, the neonatal unit provides critical care to 31 babies at any one time, with only five rooms available for families to stay.

We urgently need to build our new 'Home from Home' to create additional bedrooms and a calm, reassuring space for families while their baby receives life-saving treatment.

We can’t do this without your support.
