It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Mrs Veronica Georges in Dominica.

Veronica was the cherished wife of Mr Franklyn Georges, the first African-Caribbean Mayor of Waltham Forest, who co-founded the Twinning Association alongside his wife.

We are grateful that Veronica joined us last summer in Leytonstone, where she spoke proudly in support of the Twinning Association.

🕊️ Rest in peace, Veronica.

✨ WFTA at the William Morris Gallery! ✨

We had a fantastic time at the Winter Late event last week! We were proud to showcase and sell books by our talented member extraordinaire, Jane Ulysses Grell, along with beautiful artwork and hand-crafted crockery by our Membership Secretary, Sharon Foster (Alicia Dean Artworks). Our Telling Our Story Anthology book was also in high demand — thank you for the wonderful support! ✨

We enjoyed local children performing carols and, of course, the main event, the Christmas Tree Light-Up by our Patron, The Mayor of Waltham Forest, Councillor Tony Bell. ✨🎄 ✨

A huge thank-you to everyone who stopped by, said hello, and supported us. It was wonderful meeting so many of you. 💛

Fantastic turnout today for our private tour of Women in Print – 150 Years of Liberty Textiles at the William Morris Gallery!

Huge thanks to curator Roisin Ingleby, who co-curated the exhibition with Rowan Bain, for guiding us through this inspiring show — featuring trailblazer Althea McNish, celebrated in the gallery’s 2022 Colour is Mine exhibition.

We were joined by our Management Committee, members, supporters, representatives from Antigua and Barbuda National Association - UK (ABNAUK) and Dominica Oversea Nationals Association (DONA), and our Patron, The Mayor of Waltham Forest, Councillor Tony Bell.

And yes… we ended with mince pies! 🎉
Special thanks to Kelly at gallery for helping make it such a lovely event.

This exhibition is a must-see — open until 21 June 2026. Don’t miss it!

✨ On Saturday, we celebrated our : Echoes of Excellence Experience – “Heroes and SHEroes Who Stand Firm in Power and Pride” at the William Morris Gallery, in collaboration with Project Zero WF and Hawkswood School.

🌟 In the presence of our Patron and The Mayor of Waltham Forest, Councillor Tony Bell, we honoured the brilliance, resilience, and creativity of Black excellence — from unsung heroes to household names.

💫 Huge thanks to our inspiring panel — Jane Ulysses Grell, Stephen Barnabis, and Alessandro Babalola — and to our wonderful host Pamela Clarke for guiding an uplifting afternoon of recognition and inspiration.

🙌 Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating Black excellence across generations — your energy made the day unforgettable!

With gratitude to our funders, the Waltham Forest, London Borough of Culture Fellowship Fund.
