A Final Farewell to Brother Nick Tonge
Today, more than 130 people gathered at Bluebell Cemetery and Crematorium to say a final farewell to our dear friend and Brother, Nick Tonge.
The remarkable attendance reflected the great affection in which Nick was held across every part of his life. His family and friends were joined by members of his golf club, the Rotary Club and many of his Brethren in Freemasonry.
Within Rose Croix, Nick had been a much-valued member of John the Baptist Chapter No. 1040 since his Perfection in March 2014, serving as its Most Wise Sovereign during 2024/25.
Nick’s service to the Order had also been recognised by the Supreme Council, which elected him to receive the 30° in February 2026. Sadly, ill health prevented him from attending the ceremony on 2 June. Arrangements were being made for him to receive the Degree on a later date when, sadly, we lost him.
The service included some wonderful and deeply personal tributes from Nick’s friends. His daughter, speaking on behalf of the family, showed remarkable composure and spoke beautifully and movingly about her father. Her words were warmly received by everyone present and left few unmoved.
It was a deeply emotional day, but also a fitting tribute to a man who meant so much to so many. We said farewell to a dear friend and Brother who will be greatly missed by us all.
Journey well, Brother Nick. We shall see you on the other side. 🙏
