Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) is organising a webinar titled: “Arbitrary Detention, Judicial Collapse, and Death Sentences in Egypt”

The webinar will discuss the continuing escalation of human rights violations in Egypt and the ongoing crackdown and widespread abuses that have persisted for nearly 13 years.

The discussion will address death sentences and executions carried out following grossly unfair trials lacking the most basic standards of justice and legal guarantees, alongside the continued arbitrary detention of thousands of political prisoners and the widespread use of enforced disappearances. The webinar will also shed light on collective punishment and retaliation against the families of detainees, in addition to the international community’s continued silence and failure to take serious action regarding the situation in Egypt.

The webinar will feature a distinguished group of human rights advocates, international experts, and researchers specialising in human rights issues in Egypt, who will discuss the legal, humanitarian, and political dimensions of these violations.

In a new wave of deadly escalation reflecting what critics describe as the Israeli occupation’s blatant disregard for civilian lives and the rules of international humanitarian law, Israeli occupation forces killed nine people and wounded nine others over the past 24 hours through dozens of air strikes, artillery attacks, and forced evacuation warnings targeting wide areas across southern and eastern Lebanon.

Israeli occupation forces launched around 60 separate attacks in a single day, the majority concentrated on populated towns in the districts of Bint Jbeil, Tyre, Nabatieh, Marjayoun, Hasbaya, and the Western Beqaa, in repeated violations of the fragile ceasefire agreement amid ongoing killings and systematic destruction of homes and civilian infrastructure.

Continuing its policy of forced displacement and systematic harassment of Palestinians, Israeli occupation authorities issued demolition orders on Wednesday for eight Palestinian homes and structures in the town of Hizma, northeast of Jerusalem, under the pretext of building without permits.

The orders targeted the “Tablas” area of the town and included homes and commercial establishments belonging to Palestinian families, including the home of Khaled Abdullah Abu Hamdan, a laundry, a carpentry workshop, a grocery store, and a residential caravan, in addition to three other homes belonging to Palestinian families in the area.

In a new escalation reflecting Israeli determination to suppress any international attempt to break the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip, Israeli occupation forces seized more than 40 boats belonging to the “Global Steadfastness Flotilla” in the Mediterranean Sea and detained over 300 international activists on board as they were heading towards the besieged enclave.

According to Hebrew media reports citing an Israeli security source, the seizure operations had not yet fully concluded, with other boats still at sea amid uncertainty over the fate of the detainees and whether Israeli occupation would transfer them to its ports or push them towards other countries in the region.

In scenes that go beyond individual abuse and amount to a deliberate political display of humiliation and intimidation, Israeli minister Itamar Ben-Gvir appeared inside a detention site at Ashdod Port, directly confronting civilian activists who had been forcibly taken from the vessels of the “Sumud Flotilla” after the ships were intercepted in international waters.

The circulated footage does not merely depict detention, but rather a public ritual of degradation, showing activists blindfolded, restrained, and lying on the ground while Ben-Gvir walked among them making provocative remarks that appeared to legitimise humiliation as part of the security spectacle.

Jordanian authorities have arrested political activist Falah Al-Khalayleh in connection with a case linked to the country’s Cybercrime Law, one day after he published a social media post discussing the nature of governance in Jordan and criticising the concept of the “deep state” in contrast to what he described as a “state of institutions and law”.

The post published prior to his arrest contained direct political commentary on the structure of power and decision-making mechanisms within the country, questioning which entities exercise actual influence inside the state. According to the circulated text, the post did not include any call for violence or direct incitement, but was limited to general political criticism falling within the scope of freedom of expression on public affairs.
