The PSA is the trade association for companies and individuals involved in the live event production industry.

Our aim is to represent, improve, educate and develop the business of technical production for all live events.

Today is 💚

Long hours, early load-ins and late load-outs, time away from home, tight deadlines and constant pressure to deliver are part of life in the live events industry, whether you're crew, staff, freelance or running the company. Everyone in this industry looks after the event, so today we want to shine a light on the people who look after us.

We're proud to stand alongside some incredible organisations doing vital work for production people:

🔧Stage Hand Charity
The original live event technicians' welfare fund, over 25 years strong. Stagehand supports UK-based production workers who can't work for a while because of serious physical or mental illness or injury, with small emergency grants in genuine hardship and help with training or re-training.

🎛️ Backup - The Technical Entertainment Charity
The Technical Entertainment Charity, founded by the industry for the industry. Backup offers medical and hardship grants to technical and crew professionals across live events, touring, theatre and broadcast, plus a 24-hour wellbeing helpline, funded counselling sessions, and free Mental Health First Aid and Addiction & Recovery Aware training for freelancers.

🎵 Music Support
Since 2016, Music Support has been helping anyone working in UK music and live events, with services largely delivered by peers who know the industry. Their helpline, mental health and addiction assessments, counselling, detox and rehab coordination, and advocacy mean no issue is too big or too small.

A huge thank you to everyone at these charities for the difference you make. 🙏

📣 Calling all PSA members working in video, screens and live pixels!

frame:work:london 2026 takes place 5–8 November at 180 Studios on the Strand. It's a small, friendly conference for media server programmers, screens producers, content designers and systems engineers, with speakers sharing real projects, warts and all.

The programme includes a workshop day on Thursday 5 November (sign-up opens 5 October), two days of talks on Friday and Saturday, and a Sunday brunch.

🎟 We have a very limited number of tickets available for current PSA members at the discounted rate of £95+VAT, covering all four days. Email [email protected] to request a code. They're first come, first served, one per member, and once they are gone, they're gone.

September at PSA 🗓️

What a month it's been! Here's a quick look at everything we've been up to:

📸 Event Photography Awards: On 2 September we were proud to sponsor the "Music – Audiences" category, celebrating the photographers who capture the energy of live music crowds.
🎤 PLASA Show: We exhibited at Olympia, London, where Hannah joined the "Are We Able To Change Old Habits?" panel on 6 September and co-chair Tom Rees took part in the "Question Time: The UK Events Industry Debate" on 7 September.
🌍 Solving the Travel Data & Impact Puzzle: On 15 September we hosted a free webinar with Livvy Drake of Onboard:earth on gathering travel data and developing low-carbon initiatives.
🧾 Freelancer travel webinar: On 22 September we teamed up with onboard:earth again for a free session helping freelancers track travel, advise clients and offset with confidence.
🚀 Freelancer Accelerator programme: PSA became a partner of NOWIE - The Network of Women in Events Freelancer Accelerator programme, and co-chair Liz Madden joined a panel on the challenges facing freelancers at its first event in September.
🏃‍♀️ Half marathon challenge: Our GM Hannah Ratcliffe ran the Windsor Half on 27 September to raise money for Backup - The Technical Entertainment Charity, with the Royal Parks Half still to come on 11 October.
🎬 Production 78 visit: Hannah headed to Bridgend for Production 78's client, staff and supplier day, touring the facility and taking on the light maze.

And we're in for another busy month in October!

It was fantastic to revisit the Production 78 team a year on, and hear about all the fabulous projects they’re working on and those in the pipeline. What is really special about this particular Staff and Supplier open day is how they’ve built relationships with universities and colleges in the area to showcase the careers on offer in the industry and give them the opportunity to get hands-on with some kit. Thank you to Duncan Thompson and the team for once again being wonderful hosts.

🏃‍♀️ This autumn, our GM Hannah Ratcliffe is taking on not one, but two half marathons! Windsor Half (27 Sept) and Royal Parks Half (11 Oct) 💪

She's running to raise money for Backup - The Technical Entertainment Charity, which supports mental health and wellbeing across the industry. It's a huge challenge, so every bit of support means the world; whether that's a donation, a message of encouragement, or just spreading the word.
