ORA Singers

ORA Singers Award-winning vocal ensemble directed by Suzi Digby OBE. World-leading commissioners of choral music. Want to support ORA's work at no cost to you?

ORA is a professional vocal ensemble made up of some of the leading singers in choral music, founded by Suzi Digby OBE. ORA seeks to captivate audiences with the highest standards of musical excellence combined with a fresh and engaging approach to performance. ORA is not just about singing, though that is at the core of its being, it is also about engaging audiences on many levels with a dramatic

and all-encompassing approach to performance that makes true ‘events’ out of concerts. ORA came into being through a belief that we are in a second golden age of choral music, matching that of the Renaissance. The choir’s performances and recordings showcase ‘classic’ masterpieces of Renaissance choral music alongside specially commissioned reflections from prominent and award-winning contemporary composers. ORA is a UK registered charity and relies heavily on the support of it's generous donors. Last week, our Apprentices had their final session where we showcased their brand new pieces that they’ve been working on over the past few weeks!

The Apprentice scheme forms the largest part of our Young Composers’ programme, with 40 students enrolled on an intensive course of online composition workshops with the brilliant Rory Johnston 🎶

Since March, they’ve been coached on elements of composition including harmony, melody, history, writing for voices, texture, and much more. They’ve also had opportunities to meet with industry experts and gain invaluable insight into the world of professional composition.

They applied their skills developed over the last few months to write their brand new pieces, and we’ve loved seeing them grow into more confident and accomplished composers!

A big well done to all of them, and a massive thank you to Rory for his brilliant work inspiring another cohort of Apprentices this year!

Our 10 Young Composers form the other strand of our education work, and you can hear their brand new pieces performed live in concert Kings Place on 31st July, 3pm!

Tickets are available via the link below and though our bio:

As we reach the halfway mark of our 10th Anniversary year, we’re looking ahead to our special anniversary concert , ‘Golden Ages’ ✨

We started our journey in 2016 with the aim to commission 100 composers in 10 years, armed with the belief that we’re in a second Golden Age of choral music. A decade on, we’re set to complete this milestone achievement premiering our 100th commission at Wigmore Hall; ‘In manus tuas’ by Brett Dean 🥳

Many of our commissions form contemporary reflections on renaissance originals, and our Golden Ages programme features some of the most influential works from across our commissioning catalogue.

Join us on 24th October at 1pm for a very special celebration featuring Renaissance masterpieces & works from some of today’s most exciting composers 🥳

Tickets available in our bio or linked below:

We hope to see you there!

Our Young Composers recently joined us for a workshop led by the brilliant , where they were able to test out their ideas and sketches with some of our singers! 🎶 Each of them have been hard at work writing a piece that reflects either Philippe De Monte’s ‘Superflumina Babylonis’ or Robert Parsons’ ‘Ave Maria a 5’, and this was the first chance for them to hear their ideas sung live!

A big thank you for Oliver Tarney for leading the workshop 🙏 We had a great time working on their pieces, and we can’t wait to see the finished products soon! ➡️

Join us on 31st July, 15:00 for our Young Composers’ Showcase, where we’ll perform and record their brand new pieces in concert! We’ll be joined by a panel of industry experts who will decide our Winner and Runner Up, and you can take part in the action by voting for the recipient of the Audience Prize!

Come and hear the sounds of the next generation! Tickets are available via the link below or through our bio 🔗
