If you fancy a large dollop of Haydn, then Barts Choir will be performing 'The Creation' in Cadogan Hall twice, on the 14 & 15 July, directed by Ivor Setterfield, who will also be marking 30 years as the choir's MD.

Wimbledon Choral partnered with Barts Choir a while back for Mahler's enormous 8th Symphony in the RAH and members of WCS have joined them in several other concerts and workshops since then.

Good luck, Barts Choir, with the concert and congratulations, Ivor, on a fantastic achievement.

Sonoro is hosting another come-and-sing event in London this year. This time it's Bach's almighty Mass in B minor.

The workshop will be led by Neil Ferris, supported by pianist Michael Higgins, vocal coach Joanna Tomlinson and members of Sonoro.

The venue, St Gabriel's Church, Pimlico, is about a 10-15 min walk from Victoria and Pimlico tube stations.

They will be using the Bärenreiter edition, and copies will be available for use on the day. Tickets include music hire, refreshments and even a Sonoro pencil!

Anthem Composition Competition for Merton SingFest

Merton SingFest is an annual event hosted by Wimbledon Choral in Wimbledon to highlight the depth and diversity of choral singing across the London Borough - from little ones to crinklies and everyone in between.

Every year, a new anthem is composed, which everyone gets to learn and sing several times during the day. For 2027, there will be an open competition for anyone to write and submit an anthem.

The closing date for the 2027 anthem is 1 September 2026 and the winner will be announced by 1 November 2026.

Full details can be found at: www.mertonsingfest.org.uk, selecting 'Anthem Competition'. Good luck!

Sonoro is running its annual choral conducting masterclass over the weekend of 11/12 July 2026 in St Gabriel's Halls in Pimlico, London. There are eight places available for choral directors to gain insights and tips from Neil Ferris, and also a limited number of spaces for observers to watch the process, with options to attend one or both days. Some of Sonoro's singers will be there on the second day so that the conductors get to work with experienced professionals.

The annual Merton SingFest was started in 2017 as a collaboration between Wimbledon Choral, Merton Music Foundation and Sonoro to highlight the immense choral richness within the London borough that spans all ages from the youngest to the crinklies. All types, shapes and sizes of choirs participate and it is fabulous fun - kept topped up by plentiful refreshments and cakes.
