Unseen Tours

Unseen Tours Award-winning social enterprise offering alternative walking tours in London, with homeless and formerly homeless guides

Unseen Tours is an award-winning, not-for-profit social enterprise that offers alternative walking tours through London's most vibrant and interesting neighbourhoods, with homeless and formerly homeless guides. Each guide takes you through a different area of London, showing you both famous landmarks and hidden gems off-the-beaten track, with their own distinctive styles, and sharing their own sto

ries and views of homelessness. As we are a social enterprise, the guides receive 60% of the ticket sales. The remaining 40% is reinvested into a common kitty out of which the guides also receive their monthly travel and mobile phone-top ups, meaning that, in real terms, they get around 80% of total ticket revenue. Unseen Tours offer a unique insight into London life - while giving visibility and a voice to people who often feel unseen and unheard.

Save the date and come down to Street Level: a free photo exhibition celebrating the personal perspectives behind Unseen Tours 💛

This is an homage to our guides and their stories. Without lived experience of homelessness, this would be a walking tour. With it, every tour becomes a perception-altering journey.

Come and experience the powerful imagery by and support the guides who change how people see the city (and each other) every day.

International Women’s Day is on Sunday 💛🌹
This year, we’re walking Westminster with Anne. through stories of women who widened access to rights, care, and public life… and what dignity looks like in the city today.

From Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole, to the Suffrage movement, this tour connects history to the present — including the realities of homelessness, and why access (to safety, support, even toilets) matters.

Homelessness isn’t a personal failure. I’s what happens when systems don’t protect people.

When affordable housing is scarce, renting is insecure, and support doesn’t match real costs, one shock can push someone into homelessness.

That’s why the reasons people become homeless are so varied, and often compounded. In 2025, these have included: relationship/domestic issues (20%), end of asylum accommodation (16%), arrears/debt (12%).

But systems can change, and so can stories.
Unseen Tours creates paid work and public education led by lived experience, helping shift stigma into understanding.

A Day in the Life behind the scenes at Unseen Tours!

As a small charitable enterprise, no two days are the same — between events planning, partnership meetings, tour developments and just pure admin, it takes a lot of enthusiasm and dedication from the team to keep the gears turning. But for us, the work is energising, as new opportunities are always on the horizon to grow Unseen Tours and develop our mission.

If you’d like to help our team by volunteering your skills, please reach out!

Homelessness isn’t always visible.

Many people experiencing homelessness are sofa surfing, staying in temporary accommodation, or living in insecure housing. This is often described as hidden homelessness and it affects far more people than rough sleeping alone.

The Homelessness Monitor 2025 shows that homelessness is shaped by structural pressures: rising rents, a lack of affordable housing, insecure work, and gaps in support. These realities are often lost behind stereotypes that focus on individual failure.

Unseen Tours works with people who have lived experience of homelessness as paid guides. The tours offer income, stability, and a platform for people to speak on their own terms. It’s our core mission to help shift how homelessness is understood, without simplifying or sensationalising it.

Understanding the issue is a first step in challenging stigma.

If you're feeling the last-minute gift panic, we've got your back with a feel-good solution. Double your impact by gifting a fun and eye-opening perspective of London, while supporting some of its most vulnerable communities. Our match-funded vouchers are the gift that gives back 🧡

🥹 We’re feeling all the love. This community is amazing; we’ve raised nearly £5k towards keeping our guides warm & working this winter!
