Since 2012, our peacebuilding programme has been bringing communities together to resolve conflict and build lasting stability even without external funding since 2023.
In 2025 alone, over 316,000 Somalis were newly displaced by conflict. Many of the tensions contributing to local conflicts are driven by competition over scarce resources like water and pasture, made worse by climate change. But a different future is possible.
In Buloburde district, we brought together 200 community members from conflict-affected villages and trained 100 local leaders in peacebuilding and governance. Today, communities are choosing dialogue over division.
People like Dahir, a farmer and community elder, who now helps lead efforts to bring communities together:
“Before this project, there were frequent conflicts… now people are living together more peacefully.”
Across Hiran, Galgaduud and Middle Shabelle, community-led peace committees that we established are continuing the work we started, proving that local solutions can create lasting impact.
Peace is possible. And it starts with communities.
