Zamzam Foundation UK is building a brighter future for all Somalis with support from UK communities.

As El Niño increases the risk of heavy rainfall and flooding in Somalia, vulnerable communities are taking action to protect their homes and livelihoods.

In Baarey village, Jowhar, Zamzam Foundation, together with Save the Children in Somalia, supported the construction of a 100-metre embankment along the Shabelle River to help reduce flooding and strengthen protection for families living along the riverbank.

Through a cash-for-work programme, 200 community members, including 30% women, contributed to the construction, placing 10,600 sandbags and planting bamboo grass to help reduce erosion and reinforce the riverbank.

Together, we can help communities prepare, protect and build a safer, more resilient future.

In Hoodey, Luuq District, Gedo Region, Zamzam Foundation is helping transform lives in hard-to-reach areas by providing essential health services.

The centre provides immunisation, nutrition support, AFP surveillance and health education, helping protect children under five, pregnant women and nomadic communities.

By bringing these vital services closer to communities, Zamzam Foundation is helping make essential healthcare more accessible to those who need it most.

As schools have reopened, a new school year brings with it new opportunities, new dreams, and new hope for children across Mogadishu

At Zamzam Foundation UK, we believe every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and build a brighter future.

This year, we were proud to support 500+ children with essential school supplies, including books, pens, rulers, and school bags helping them return to the classroom prepared, confident, and ready to learn.

Education is more than a textbook or a pencil. It is a pathway to opportunity, a tool for breaking the cycle of poverty, and an investment in the leaders of tomorrow.

Together, we can help give every child the opportunity to learn, dream, and thrive.

At Barsaguni Health Centre, Zamzam Foundation is helping bring essential immunisation services closer to families in hard-to-reach communities across Gedo.

Health workers at the facility continue to provide routine childhood vaccinations, helping children receive the protection they need against vaccine-preventable diseases.

For families living far from essential services, having immunisation available closer to home can make a meaningful difference, helping overcome distance and other barriers to preventive healthcare.

In May 2026, Zamzam Foundation completed the construction of a new Quran school in Mogadishu, Somalia, with the support of جمعية الشيخ عبد الله النوري الخيرية

The school serves 90 students, including both boys and girls, providing them with access to Islamic education within their local community.

For these students, access to Quranic education provides an opportunity to:
• Increase their religious knowledge
• Learn in a safe and supportive environment

Peace begins when communities come together to resolve differences, find common ground and work towards a safer and more hopeful future.

In Somalia, Zamzam Foundation’s peacebuilding programme works to transform conflict into cooperation, facilitate reconciliation, support fair resource management, and enable communities to rebuild together.

We bring together conflicting clans and local communities to resolve disputes through dialogue, community-led conflict resolution and social reconciliation, while supporting local peace committees that promote non-violent conflict resolution.

This International Day of Peace, we stand with the communities working every day to build peace, strengthen social cohesion and create a brighter future for Somalia.

In August, Zamzam Foundation successfully completed the construction of six new shallow wells in Beledweyne and surrounding areas, Somalia

These wells have now been handed over to the local communities, with each shallow well expected to benefit approximately 50 families, providing communities with improved and more reliable access to water for their daily needs.

The wells are located in Doon Subagle, Buulo Xuubey, Buulo Yacquub, Goofaale and Bacaadaha, with a total estimated reach of 300 families across the six locations.

For these communities, access to water means:
Safe and reliable water for daily needs
Improved health and hygiene
Greater resilience to water shortages, drought and flooding
Greater stability for families and livelihoods

Today, on World Patient Safety Day, we recognise the importance of ensuring that everyone, everywhere, can access safe, quality healthcare.

For communities across Somalia, patient safety means more than simply being able to reach a health facility. It means receiving accurate health information, appropriate and timely treatment, and care that protects people from avoidable harm and treats them with dignity.

At Zamzam Foundation UK, we work with communities to improve access to healthcare, strengthen health awareness, and support prevention and treatment. We believe that everyone deserves healthcare they can access, trust, and feel safe receiving.

Through our work, we continue to support communities across Somalia in accessing the healthcare they need.

Last year, Zamzam Foundation hosted an Agricultural Products Exhibition in Beledweyne District.

The exhibition brought together farmer cooperatives, local associations, financial institutions, universities, and suppliers of quality seeds and fertilisers, creating opportunities for farmers to connect, learn and explore new markets.

This was more than an exhibition. It was a celebration of the resilience, hard work and potential of Somali farmers, while creating connections that can help strengthen markets, encourage innovation and build more sustainable agricultural livelihoods.

In 2025, Zamzam Foundation’s work reached 2.2 million people across Somalia, making it one of the most impactful years in our 33-year history.

From supporting women and families to helping farmers strengthen food security and build resilience to climate challenges, this impact was made possible by the dedication of our teams, partners and supporters.
