Since 2012, our peacebuilding programme has been bringing communities together to resolve conflict and build lasting stability even without external funding since 2023.

In 2025 alone, over 316,000 Somalis were newly displaced by conflict. Many of the tensions contributing to local conflicts are driven by competition over scarce resources like water and pasture, made worse by climate change. But a different future is possible.

In Buloburde district, we brought together 200 community members from conflict-affected villages and trained 100 local leaders in peacebuilding and governance. Today, communities are choosing dialogue over division.

People like Dahir, a farmer and community elder, who now helps lead efforts to bring communities together:

“Before this project, there were frequent conflicts… now people are living together more peacefully.”

Across Hiran, Galgaduud and Middle Shabelle, community-led peace committees that we established are continuing the work we started, proving that local solutions can create lasting impact.

Peace is possible. And it starts with communities.

As we approach the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, the crisis in Somalia continues to deepen.
• 1.84 million children are acutely malnourished
• Over 3.9 million people are displaced
• Drought is now the leading cause of displacement

This is not just an environmental crisis, it's a humanitarian emergency.

Through our response:
64,000 people supported with food packs
106,000 people reached with fresh meat distributions
Thousands of hot meals delivered in displacement camps
Families need urgent support.

We supported over 3,000 families and benefited approx. 18,000 people in Mogadishu–Baqilaqil through the completion of 1 new borehole in April.

This will improve access to safe drinking water, reduce water scarcity, and support better health and hygiene for families in the area.

At Zamzam Foundation UK, we believe that lasting change begins with empowering people to support themselves and their families.

Through our livelihoods programmes, we provide vocational training, business grants, microfinance support, and income-generating opportunities to help vulnerable communities build sustainable futures.

One such success story is Abdirahman Farah Abdullahi, who became the sole provider for his 10 siblings after the loss of their parents. Through Zamzam's livelihoods programme, he received a tuc-tuc taxi, enabling him to earn a stable income and care for his family.

By investing in livelihoods, we are helping families move beyond dependency, strengthen their resilience, and create opportunities for long-term economic stability.

Muharram, the first month of the Islamic (Hijri) calendar, is expected to begin on Tuesday 16 June 2026, subject to the sighting of the moon.

As one of the four sacred months in Islam, Muharram is a special time for reflection, worship, and drawing closer to Allah (SWT). During this blessed month, the rewards for good deeds are multiplied, and believers are encouraged to increase in acts of worship.

May Allah (SWT) make Muharram a month of peace, guidance, and spiritual growth for us all!

Midwives can prevent up to 67% of maternal and newborn deaths. Yet across the world, there is still a shortage of 1 million midwives.

In crisis-affected communities, skilled midwives can mean the difference between life and death for mothers and babies. Safe births don’t happen by chance they happen when trained health professionals are present, supported and ready to help.

At Zamzam Foundation UK, we are working to strengthen maternal healthcare services in Somalia by training, equipping and supporting midwives in our health facilities.

This year alone:
• 23 midwives have been trained
• 32 midwives are currently working across maternal health clinics
• 1,701 mothers safely delivered their babies at our facilities in 2026

We have also supported 29,461 women with specialist maternal healthcare, and 3,427 mothers gave birth with the support of a midwife or trained health professional at our clinics.

From antenatal care to safe deliveries, this work is helping more mothers in Somalia receive the care they need.

ZamZam Foundation continues to expand access to essential healthcare for vulnerable communities across Somalia through health centres, mobile health teams, and community-based programmes.
Through 35 service delivery points across Gedo, Lower Jubba, Banadir, Middle Shabelle, Hiraan, Lower Shabelle, and Middle Jubba, we have reached over 23,500 people with vital healthcare services, including:
• Antenatal care for pregnant women
• Safe deliveries and maternal health support
• Child immunisations
• Treatment for pneumonia, diarrhoea, and malaria
• Community health awareness on hygiene, disease prevention, and drought-related health risks
Together, we are helping ensure that even the most vulnerable and hard-to-reach communities have access to the care they need.
