Our project primarily serves elderly African and Caribbean individuals, aged 65 and above, living in the Greenwich borough, one of the most deprived areas in London. Many of our beneficiaries live alone, in poverty, and suffer from poor health, including long-term limiting illnesses and physical disabilities. According to their testimonies, isolation is a major issue, leaving them cut off from social networks and emotionally lonely. Health experts recognize isolation as a silent killer, particularly among the elderly.
In 2014-2015, only 40% of adult social care users in Greenwich reported having as much social contact as they would like (Greenwich Council Report 2014-2015). Greenwich ranks 30th out of 32 London boroughs in this regard, with 32 being the worst.
Our charity aims to reduce the isolation and loneliness experienced by our beneficiaries by providing weekly opportunities for them to come together, meet their peers, make friendships, and expand their social networks.
The success and sustainability of our projects are rooted in the continuous involvement of our community members in both the development and delivery stages, ensuring that our services remain relevant and effective.
