Happy October folks!

It may still be warm outside but the season has definitely changed. What changes have you noticed in the past week since the equinox? We highly recommend getting outside, even for a few minutes, and playing I Spy or Spot the Difference and seeing what autumnal delights you notice 🍁👀

We'll have autumn spotter sheets available at our upcoming Samhain event with even more things to tick off - make sure you grab a ticket from our Eventbrite so you can pick one up for yourself. Plus, if you sign up to be a member you can get your hands on our exclusive autumn zine as well!

Join us at the London National Park City* festival on Sat 17th Oct!

Trustees (and LNPC Rangers!) Eleanor and Zabby will be there to talk about all things Wild South London and will be running a zine workshop too. We'll have all sorts of autumnal goodness for you to look at and learn about and then you can make yourself a mini nature journal!

Merry Mabon and Happy Autumn Equinox everybody!

Very happy to reveal today that our Samhain and Halloween celebration will be happening at Brockwell Hall Community this year!

Join us on Sat 31st October for a day of autumnal goodness, craft activities, a nature trail and more! We'll also be running our popular folktale walk in the park taking you right up to sunset.

As ever, tickets are FREE and available to book now via our Eventbrite page.

You must have a ticket to join the folktale walk but it's not vital to have one to join us for the drop-in activities BUT it would really help us to know how many people might turn up so we can make sure we have enough materials.

Happy September everyone!

We're really feeling those autumn transition vibes so thought it was time to get this out there...

This year we're going somewhere NEW, so keep an eye out here and in your email inboxes for the announcement and all the details of the activities and walks we're planning! If you want to be the first to know, remember to sign up as a member for £10 a year (see the link in our bio) or email us if you'd like to join but the fee isn't possible at the moment.

As ever, the event will be FREE and suitable for people of ALL AGES.

Want to get involved on the day? We're looking for a few volunteers, so please DM or email us if you'd like to help out.

Join us for the first of our autumn events!

On Saturday 19th September we're delighted to be joining Sydenham Arts for their annual Artists Trail. We'll be running a nature journaling workshop and showing how keeping notes, doodling, sketching and even making mini art works can help you connect with nature. We'll take a wander round Mayow Park and look for signs of autumn and then gather indoors at a local school to record what we've noticed.

We'll be guided by two of our very artistic trustees, Chair Zabby Allen and Chloe Callow, who will be bringing lots of examples to inspire us and we'll provide materials, although you are welcome to bring your own as well!

Not feeling arty or think that nature journaling isn't for you? No experience (or particular artistic talent!) is necessary - we're not here to judge or mark your work, it's all for you and we'd love to welcome you if you want to give it a try.

Trustee Eleanor is going to Beckenham Place Park tomorrow (Weds 22nd July) to do some impromptu butterfly counting for Butterfly Conservation Big Butterfly Count 🦋

If you're free and would like to join her, please do!

We're hoping to do some more impromptu gatherings and weekday meet ups alongside our regular weekend events so make sure your notifications are on for Wild South London so you can get involved, especially if you don't work a traditional Mon-Fri, 9-5, kind of job. Don't worry if you have weekday commitments though - our usual programme isn't going anywhere!

Who's joining us on Saturday for our Members' Summer Picnic? ☀️🍓🥗🍰🍨🌻

Come along for a bring and share feast and get to know your trustees and fellow members better. We'll also being holding our AGM, which might sound a little dull but it just gives us, and you, a chance to check in on where we're at, how things are going and what we could be doing more of or differently!

Not a member yet? You can sign up at any time via the link in our bio, or you can turn up on the day and join then. It's £10 a year, but if that's not doable for you at the moment then we'll happily include you for less, or for free - no questions asked!

To finish up trustee Eleanor (Eleanor McAlister-Dilks) went over to Grow Lewisham to join in their first bug survey as part of Capital Growth's Big City Bug Hunt.

It was so lovely to see so many different species all thriving on the plot. Have a look through the photos to see some of what they saw (and that Eleanor managed to photograph!) and see if you can help to ID some of the ones they couldn't... 🪲🐛🦗🦋👀

Happy everyone! Thought we'd share a few photos from our butterfly walk last Sunday to celebrate, which includes some butterflies and other insects too!

Pictured here we have:
Large skipper, Female blue damselfly, Green eyed flower bee, Buff tailed bumblebee, a type of parasitic wasp - think it could be from the Gasteruptiidae family, Comma and Small white.

Meadow brown
Red admiral
Small skipper
Broad bellied chaser
Male blue damselflies
Speckled woods
Thick legged beetles
Painted lady
Ladybirds
Beautiful demoiselle
More bees and hoverflies than we could stop to look at!

The sun has officially set on the Summer Solstice and on our Midsummer Nature Festival Beckenham Place Mansion

Thank you to everyone who came and celebrated with us - we had a fantastic day and hope you did too! A few highlights here but we'll share more soon.
