Trustee Eleanor is going to Beckenham Place Park tomorrow (Weds 22nd July) to do some impromptu butterfly counting for Butterfly Conservation Big Butterfly Count πŸ¦‹

If you're free and would like to join her, please do!

We're hoping to do some more impromptu gatherings and weekday meet ups alongside our regular weekend events so make sure your notifications are on for Wild South London so you can get involved, especially if you don't work a traditional Mon-Fri, 9-5, kind of job. Don't worry if you have weekday commitments though - our usual programme isn't going anywhere!

DM us or comment below if you'd like to join tomorrow and Eleanor will send you the details of where to meet her.

Come along for a bring and share feast and get to know your trustees and fellow members better. We'll also being holding our AGM, which might sound a little dull but it just gives us, and you, a chance to check in on where we're at, how things are going and what we could be doing more of or differently!

Not a member yet? You can sign up at any time via the link in our bio, or you can turn up on the day and join then. It's Β£10 a year, but if that's not doable for you at the moment then we'll happily include you for less, or for free - no questions asked!

Come and join the WSLC family πŸ’š

To finish up trustee Eleanor (Eleanor McAlister-Dilks) went over to Grow Lewisham to join in their first bug survey as part of Capital Growth's Big City Bug Hunt.

It was so lovely to see so many different species all thriving on the plot. Have a look through the photos to see some of what they saw (and that Eleanor managed to photograph!) and see if you can help to ID some of the ones they couldn't... πŸͺ²πŸ›πŸ¦—πŸ¦‹πŸ‘€

Pictured here we have:
Large skipper, Female blue damselfly, Green eyed flower bee, Buff tailed bumblebee, a type of parasitic wasp - think it could be from the Gasteruptiidae family, Comma and Small white.

Not pictured but also seen on Sunday:
Hummingbird hawk moth
Meadow brown
Red admiral
Small skipper
Broad bellied chaser
Male blue damselflies
Speckled woods
Thick legged beetles
Painted lady
Ladybirds
Beautiful demoiselle
More bees and hoverflies than we could stop to look at!

What insects have you spotted in South London recently? Let us know in the comments, or send us a photo!

Announcing the Midsummer Seed Swap!

If you're coming to our Midsummer Nature Festival on Sunday and like growing flowers, food and all the plants in-between, why not take part in our community seeds swap? Bring some seeds that you're not using and swap them for something different! The Wild South London trustees will get things started with seeds from their personal stashes - think calendula, cosmos, courgettes and even cacti - so you can swap as soon as you arrive.

Oh, and if you sign up to be a member on the day, we'll give you some free seeds as a bonus!*

Get those seeds sorted and we'll see you Sunday!

*whilst stocks last! 🌱

Friends! Fancy volunteering at our Midsummer Festival on Sun 21st June? We would love a few helpful hands to make everything run as smoothly as last year, so please get in touch with us if you can offer a little assistance. More details below and in the pic above. Thank you, thank you!

***

Wild South London are looking for a handful of volunteers to help out at this year’s Midsummer Festival at Beckenham Place Mansion in Beckenham Place Park on Sunday 21st June 1:30pm-5pm.

We need volunteers to help out between 12:30pm and 5:30pm. You will either be in a room helping with activities (like making zines or flower crowns, helping people add β€˜wishes’ to a collaborative artwork, or on the door, counting people as they come in and answering any questions). A clear task will be assigned to you on the day, but if one activity particularly interests you, we can plan around that.

Wild South London can cover up to Β£5 travel expenses. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

If you are interested in helping out, please DM us with your email address so we can send you more details, or email [email protected]. Feel free to pass on to anyone you think might be interested.

You can find more information about the event (and about Wild South London) at the Eventbrite link in our bio.

Thank you!

It's finally time to announce the first of our summer events!

We're back on the summer solstice to celebrate all things Midsummer! We'll have lots of nature-based activities to get involved with including our popular nature trail and a flower crown workshop, plus we're delighted that has agreed to lead another butterfly walk for us!

As usual, tickets are FREE! The butterfly walk has a maximum number so please book now to avoid disappointment, although you can always check with us on the day. You can also book for the mansion events which will help us get an idea of numbers, but you're also welcome to just drop in on the day.

Head to the Eventbrite link in our bio for tickets and a bit more info.

PS: It's also father's day on 21st June! We know it can be a tough day for some and a wonderful celebration for others so we'll be bearing both in mind at the event.

Wild South London is 3!!! Happy birthday to us! πŸŽ‰

To celebrate, each of us trustees thought we'd tell you about 3 things we love about nature.

We would LOVE it if you would share three things you love about nature. Tag us in a post, story or reel and we'll share them all. Don't fancy putting something together? Comment 3 things below or send us a DM and we'll share your nature loves that way πŸ’š

Thank you to each and every one of you, our members, followers, event-goers and general supporters, we wouldn't be doing this without you!
