We're delighted to welcome Alima Quershi as the new Chair of the Board of Trustees!

Alima brings extensive leadership experience across government, housing, and the charity sector. Her career has been defined by a deep and sustained commitment to improving outcomes for women survivors of exploitation and structural inequality. Her background spans safeguarding, trauma‑informed practice, partnership development, commissioning, governance, and systems leadership—expertise that aligns strongly with the Foundation’s mission to support women who have survived trafficking and exploitation.

Comedy is more than entertainment - it can be a powerful tool for boosting confidence, self-acceptance, and finding strength in our voice.

Last week, 24 members of the CREW had the pleasure of working with our Champion Daisy Earl and her fantastic co-facilitators, Dawn Bailey & Nicole Scott, to build their confidence through comedy. We're so grateful to these wonderful women and to Frog and Bucket Comedy Club for making this impactful workshop possible.

Every CREW member walked away with smiles on their faces, new friends and experiences, and methods for amplifying their voices - vital skills as they look ahead towards bright futures.

As Andy Burnham is handed the post of Prime Minister, vowing to bring new and radical solutions to the table, Sophie Hayes Foundation has one to suggest – why not make 2026 the year in which survivors of modern slavery are given the Right to Work?

For 15 years, we have supported hundred of women survivors of modern slavery as they rebuild their lives. Each has strength, skill, and aspiration, but many face one impossible barrier: the inability to work legally.

There is another way.

To grant the Right to Work to survivors would be an act not of leniency, but of leadership. It would bolster the workforce, strengthen the economy, and perhaps most importantly, uphold the principle of empowerment, not exclusion.

A massive thank you to our Champion Daisy Earl for completing her 100 mile walk in June to raise vital funds for the women in our community 🙌 👏🥇

We couldn't be more grateful for this effort - Daisy created her own challenge, goal, and time frame and raised £675! Her motivation? A genuine care and awareness of the incredible women survivors in need of essential support to rebuild their lives after exploitation.
