Tree Wardens

Tree Wardens Local people who care about, maintain and plant trees in their borough. We help grow the treescape. Please follow our page to be kept in the loop.

The Tree Wardens Scheme was created in the 1980's by the Tree Council to allow local people to get together and help the treescape grow. We like trees and everything about them, especially those here in London. The Tree Warden scheme was created by the Tree Council, who provide free training from time to time. Tree Warden groups are autonomous - formed usually by local residents and free of any co

ntrol from anyone but themselves. Tree Wardens spend between 5 minutes and lots of hours per year caring for and learning about existing, mainly street trees and sometimes planting new ones. Many people have trees near them and want to make sure they are not under threat and are well looked after but cannot do it themselves. That's where we step in - we're unpaid volunteers who work with the Council's Tree Officer to support the growth of these vital green assets.
