Team Up

Team Up Sharla founded Team Up (formerly known as YELP Students) in 2008, as a student at King's College London.

Team Up uses tuition, delivered by inspirational role models, to enable pupils from low income backgrounds to meaningfully increase their academic attainment, in order to improve the choices open to them. By having a chance encounter with a friend who attended private school, she became aware of the stark inequalities of opportunity for young people from different social backgrounds. Coming from a

socially immobile community herself, Sharla recognised that university students can be powerful change-makers by helping other young people reach their academic potential. As a student she led 200 other students to support secondary school pupils in their local community. She has a BSc in Biochemistry, King's College London and two further postgraduate qualifications from the University of Oxford.
