So lovely to welcome Linsey to our Cockpit studio last month ✨

Linsey Young is a renowned Independent curator, she previously worked at Tate where she led on the Turner Prize and curated Women in Revolt! Art and Activism, as well as working on collections. We’re also incredibly fortunate to have her expertise as an ActionSpace Trustee.

Linsey’s dedication to advocacy and creating space for diverse voices makes her such an inspiring supporter of ActionSpace.

Thank you, Linsey, for always uplifting our mission and the artists we work with! 💛

Spotted at the studio this week - new works by Amita Ramchandani!

Amita's layered mixed media pieces combine acrylic, watercolour, fabric and hand-stitching, evolving through an intuitive process shaped by colour, texture and movement. Rooted in family textile traditions, Amita’s tactile works carry both energy and personal history.

We shared a joyous evening late last month with ActionSpace artist Linda Bell at Lovay Fine Arts in Geneva. Linda's live performance was a highlight during the exhibition 'Methodical Process,' which also featured works by Nnena Kalu and Marie Gyger.

Accompanied by ActionSpace's Head of Artist Development, Charlotte Hollinshead, and buoyant from her recent events at Tate Modern over the Easter holidays, Linda thorough enjoyed sharing and building her interactive artworks with Lovay's guests, which has become a major part of Linda's practice.

We're looking forward to the next instalment of this artist's creative journey!

ActionSpace Spring Series 🌿

It's a new month, and as the Spring season continues, we're spotlighting a piece from ActionSpace artist Beth Beaumont Epstein. Beth's dramatic use of layered florals has become a distinctive hallmark of her style.

Built through a combination of dark ink and bright, rich colour, Beth creates a dense foreground of overlapping blooms, where petals and shadows merge together.

Beth has recently joined ActionSpace and is building up her practice. Stay tuned for more of her work to come! 🌺

It’s National Creativity Day, and we are celebrating our artists at ActionSpace and the ways they continue to develop their ideas through making and experimentation.

Our three flagship London studios — at Studio Voltaire (South), Cockpit Bloomsbury (Central), and ASC Ealing Road (West) — are vibrant, long-term spaces where learning disabled artists flourish. With regular sessions led by professional facilitators, these studios are creative powerhouses where community, support and practice are at their heart. ⭐

A week on from the launch of our Curating and Coalition Symposium recordings, we’ve been reflecting on some of the key discussions that emerged around ActionSpace artist Nnena Kalu’s Turner Prize win, and its wider implications for the art sector.

A recurring theme throughout the symposium was that this moment should not be understood simply as an individual achievement, but as part of a larger structural shift in how artistic practice is recognised and supported.

As author and artist Richard Phoenix observed:

“I believe supported studios, as ultraprogressive, inclusive and open-minded spaces, offer us insights into why and, crucially, how we might radically reimagine the artworld, education and society.”

ActionSpace Spring Series 🌿

This Spring bank holiday, we’re revisiting a few favourite works by ActionSpace artists that capture the feeling of season.

Ali Kamalati's 'Space' combines washed acrylic, watercolour, and pencil, to create a patchwork-like pastel backdrop that blends colour harmoniously across the surface. Layered pencil emerges over the composition, introducing form and depth.

Ali’s work is intuitive, intimate and quirky. It suggests animated events, objects, words and landscapes that capture his extraverted nature.

ActionSpace Spring Series 🌿

With the late May bank holiday approaching (and some sunshine on the way!), we’re revisiting a few favourite works by ActionSpace artists that capture the feeling of Spring.

Cecilia Caulder’s 'Isabella Plantation Still Pond Richmond Park 1' beautifully reflects the colours of the season.

In the artist's own words: "It was a bright spring day when myself and my family decided to go out early at 6pm to sketch this scene at the still pond in Isabella Plantation Richmond Park. It happens once a year when rhododendrons and camellias burst into flower creating this shimmering vibrant spectacular show across the pond’s waters."

"I felt the combination of vibrant popping colours; flowing movement of the shapes and forms really captured the vibrant energy I experienced. The medium used to create both pieces was acrylic gouache with posca pens."

WATCH NOW | Curating and Coalition: Challenging and Expanding the Art World in the Wake of Nnena Kalu’s Turner Prize Win

Presented by ActionSpace in partnership with Stanley Picker Gallery and Kingston School of Art PhD candidate Lisa Slominski the symposium explored how practices such as Nnena Kalu’s are interpreted, supported, and sustained within contemporary art.

We’re pleased to share that the symposium webpage and recordings are now live. ⭐

We hope these recordings offer useful reflections and practical insights for curators, researchers, educators and organisations working to engage more thoughtfully and ambitiously with learning disabled artists.
