Taking Pictures, Changing Lives

We are the Taking Pictures, Changing Lives Foundation. A global team of filmmakers and photographers.

We document the work of charities who are supporting some of the communities most affected by poverty in the world. We partner with charities and NGOs who work with some of the most under-represented communities on earth. Our global contributors - photographers, filmmakers and writers use creativity as a tool to tell their stories with truth and beauty and help them deliver real change. There are

charities helping people across the world that not many of us hear about. Organisations supporting communities with education, safe water and healthcare whose work can go unnoticed if we don’t document it. People whose life-changing stories of resilience and hope are left untold if we don’t share them. Our model of fundraising to cover costs means we can send our team to capture these untold stories and gift footage and photographs for free. So that the small charities can raise the money and awareness they need to keep delivering their vital services. You’re not just helping charities with your donations and support, you are providing work for photographers in Africa, Asia and South America. Our model of employing in-country photographers and videographers to gather footage is putting the power and decision making back where it belongs - in the countries these charities are working in.

I'm delighted to say that we have raised a total of £9,100 inc Gift Aid and offline donations. I'm humbled and grateful for all of you who have given your money, time, skills and support again this year.

There are 2 days remaining to donate to our 2024 crowdfunding campaign and great news - we've reached a guaranteed £6,770 including Gift Aid which will go a long, long way to securing jobs for our contributors, providing resources for small charities and ultimately - Changing Lives!

To do all we have planned this year, we still have a way to go. We would love to raise the full £15,000 if possible.

Campaign officially ends this Friday 3rd May at 11pm.

15 years after my first trip to Zambia, I had no idea that I’d still be planning trips, connecting with new charities and amazing photographers and editing photos that are changing lives. During this time our team have worked with over 25 charities doing amazing work that would have missed out as they don’t have the budget to employ professional photographers.

I do miss travelling, and many of you reading this were with me on my trips - but it makes so much sense to provide work for in-country professional photographers who are deeply connected with the communities and projects that we send them to photograph, reducing travel costs and miles to make our work as sustainable and efficient as possible. I no longer need to travel - I've effectively put myself out of a job!

I’m so proud of what we’ve grown. I love that we can give content to charities at little or no cost, that we can work with and provide a source of income to talented global professional photographers.

Above all, I find it so humbling that people continue to donate to our work and am grateful for all the support I’ve personally received over the last 15 years that has made Taking Pictures, Changing Lives possible. Here's to the next 15!

Fundraising campaign update

With just 5 days left to donate to our fundraising campaign we are so grateful to have reached a total of £5,500. Thank you so much for your generosity.

Our goal is to reach £15,000 (or as much as possible) by 11.59pm on 3rd May to keep working with the amazing charities we’re proud to be supporting. We will receive and put to good use all the money that is donated.

Campaign update

There are 12 days remaining to donate to our 2024 campaign and we've reached a guaranteed £5,050 including Gift Aid. Thank you so much to everyone who has already donated.

Our goal is to reach £15,000 (or as much as possible) by 11.59pm on 3rd May. We will recieve and put to good use all the money that is donated - so the more we raise, the more we can continue Taking Pictures and Changing Lives.

The money donated to Taking Pictures, Changing Lives in 2023 helped fund the creation of videos, reports, websites, social media content and fundraising appeals.

It’s a circular pattern. Our fundraising campaigns pay for photographers and filmmakers to create content for charities. Charities share the content, which helps them raise more money to fund their work. And the circle continues.
