Kenya Society UK

Kenya Society UK The Kenya Society is a membership club for friends of Kenya residing in the United Kingdom.

The Kenya Society was formed in 1989 as the result of an initiative of the then High Commissioner, Amb Dr. Sally Kosgei and a group of people in Britain who had spent part of their lives in Kenya and were greatly attached to the country. The aim of the Kenya Society is to foster good relations between the United Kingdom and Kenya, this is fulfilled through a range of activities and benefits to its

members. Essentially it was an association of friends of Kenya who came together, on an organised basis, to share experiences and bring themselves up-to-date with events involving Kenya. The Society is neither a political movement nor an association of academics; however, it does not shy away from discussing some of the momentous political events of the day, or the complex issues and background that make up the fabric of modern Kenya.

The Kenya Society UK is profoundly saddened and joins all Kenyans, both at home and across the diaspora, in deep mourning following the sudden passing of the Right Honourable Raila Odinga, EGH, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Kenya.

On behalf of the Societyโ€™s Committee and all our Members, I extend our most sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathies to Mama Ida Odinga, the entire Odinga family, the people of Bondo, his dedicated circle of friends and the people of Kenya during this time of profound national grief.

The Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, affectionately known to many as โ€œBabaโ€, was an indomitable pillar of Kenyan politics โ€“ a courageous and unyielding champion of democracy, justice and freedom โ€“ and a revered statesman in the region. For over four decades, he dedicated his life to advancing the ideals of good governance, constitutional reform and national unity. His legendary courage, resilience and unwavering commitment to the people of Kenya helped shape the nationโ€™s democratic journey and inspired generations to believe in the power of civic engagement and peaceful, enduring change.

For Kenyans in the United Kingdom, we remember Raila Odinga not only as a formidable statesman but also as a symbol of perseverance, patriotism, unwavering resolve and hope. His legacy is indelible and will endure through the democratic institutions he helped build and strengthen, and the countless lives he touched both within Kenya, the African continent and across the world.

As the nation pauses to reflect on his monumental contribution, we pray that the people of Kenya draw strength, unity and fortitude from his life of service during this difficult time of collective mourning.

May His Soul Rest in Eternal Peace. ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ช

Earlier this month, we had the distinct pleasure of hosting our 35th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Annual Lunch at the iconic The Rembrandt Hotel in London. This landmark event brought together our esteemed members, partners, and distinguished guests, including our Guest of Honour, Mr. Kiprono Kittony, EBS, Chairman of the Nairobi Securities Exchange PLC, and keynote speaker Mrs. Perez Ochieng, CEO of SACOMA Foods Innovation.

Led by our Chairman, Juvenal Shiundu, the 35th AGM marked a pivotal moment for the Society. We not only reflected on a year of significant achievements but also made a transformative decision to convert the into a Community Interest Company (CIC) Limited by Guarantee. This strategic shift strengthens our legal foundation, enhances sustainability and reinforces our public benefit mission as we look ahead to decades of continued impact.

The Annual Lunch was a unique platform for high-level networking and thought leadership. Mr. Kittony delivered a powerful address on the optimistic outlook for 's capital markets and made a compelling call for increased , crucial for Kenya's . Mrs. Ochieng inspired attendees with her keynote, drawing parallels between athletic perseverance and entrepreneurial success.

This 35th anniversary event underscored our enduring commitment to celebrating Kenyan culture, heritage and partnerships, fostering deeper understanding and building a prosperous, inclusive future.
