EUJS - European Union of Jewish Students The European Union of Jewish Students is the umbrella organization representing over 160,000 Jewish students across 36 countries in Europe.

EUJS envisions a vibrant, sustainable Jewish communal life in Europe with strong youth and student involvement. EUJS seeks to strengthen Jewish communities and European society through Jewish student activism and advocacy. Therefore, EUJS connects peer-lead, independent Jewish student unions throughout Europe and supports them in fulfilling the aspirations of the Jewish people, developing its religious, spiritual, cultural and social heritage, and ensuring its continuity. How we do this:

We connect Jewish student unions by facilitating exchange, discussion and partnership amongst them at our events and trainings. We assist our members, and encourage the formation of peer-lead, independent student unions wherever there are Jewish students. We empower Jewish students to take on present and future leadership roles – In the community and beyond. We seek to secure the rights, status and interests of Jews and Jewish communities in Europe, and to contribute towards an inclusive Europe. In order to achieve this, we represent our members before international institutions and in various organizations, such as the European Jewish Congress, the European Youth Forum, the United Nations, and many more.

This we call on European Universities and Institutions to take Antisemtism seriously, once and for all.

Day 3 of our UN Ambassadors Seminar: on 7 October, we attended an event hosted by the Permanent Mission of Israel to the UN Permanent Mission of Israel to the UN in Geneva , met with Daniel Radomski of UN Watch to discuss holding the UN to its founding principles, and closed the day at a vigil with the local Jewish community.

Three years on, we continue to carry their names with us.

Two years on, we remember the people behind the numbers.

This October 7th, EUJS is bringing Postcards from October 7th to the European Parliament, sharing the stories of lives taken on that day with Members of the European Parliament.

Each postcard tells a story. A person, a family, a life that deserves to be remembered not simply as part of a death toll, but for who they were.

We are asking MEPs to read their stories, share them, and help keep their memories alive.

But remembrance must also lead to action.

Two years after October 7th, Jewish communities across Europe continue to face an alarming reality of antisemitism, whether it comes from the far right, the far left, Islamist extremism, or the political mainstream.

Remember their names. Share their stories. Turn remembrance into action.

EUJS strongly condemns the reported desecration of the Israel and European flags at the European Parliament. EUJS stands for not only young European Jewry, but European values. The desecration of not only the Israeli, but European Union flag in the European Parliament, allegedly by MEP Hassan goes directly against those values.
 
EUJS is deeply appalled by reports that the Israeli and the European Union flags displayed at a commemoration for the victims and hostages of October 7 were knocked to the ground inside the Parliament in Strasbourg, France. The commemoration was co-hosted by MEP Hildegard Bentele and our partners, the American Jewish Committee (AJC).
 
Three years after the Hamas terrorist attacks that murdered 1,200 people and saw 251 people taken hostage to the Gaza Strip, a commemoration of their lives and suffering should be met with respect and dignity. Political disagreement can never justify disrespecting a memorial to victims of terrorism, nor can hostility or criticism towards the State of Israel justify targeting national symbols – particularly alongside the flag of the European Union, in the heart of European democracy where human rights and dignity must be upheld.
 
EUJS therefore calls on the leadership of the European Parliament to ensure that the incident is fully investigated and, if confirmed, for appropriate action to be taken towards the perpetrators. EUJS also calls on MEPs to speak out clearly against such despicable behaviour.
 
Every victim of terrorism deserves respect.

Last week, our Policy Offier Austin joined the EU Youth Conference in Dublin, under the auspices of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU 🇪🇺

She took part in a working group that created a new EU Youth Goal for meaningful youth participation and democracy, making sure the voice and perspectives of young Jews were represented in this key European policy process.
