3. To encourage professional and social interaction among Muslim health care professionals and with wider medical community in the UK

4. To promote research and education in the field of medicine, Islamic medical history and Islamic medical ethics.

5. To engage our professional skills in charitable activities locally and globally to help the needy irrespective of colour, creed or faith.

6. To advise & support Muslim health care professionals and students in career development, orientation and other work related issues.

BIMA welcomes the RCN’s decision regarding Teva

The British Islamic Medical Association welcomes the Royal College of Nursing’s decision to end its commercial relationship with Teva UK and withdraw Teva’s sponsorship of an upcoming educational event.

Healthcare organisations have a responsibility to ensure commercial partnerships reflect the ethical principles of our professions.

BIMA continues to call for robust due diligence, transparency and consideration of human rights when healthcare organisations enter commercial relationships.

The protection of life, human dignity and professional integrity must remain at the heart of healthcare.

BIMA is pleased to have contributed to new BMA guidance on faith inclusivity for medical students.

The guidance covers practical areas including religious dress, prayer, Ramadan, timetabling, clinical skills, discrimination and wellbeing, helping students understand the support they should expect throughout their education and clinical placements.

BIMA provided expertise and feedback during its development, with several of our resources also included within the guidance.

We welcome this important step towards ensuring medical students can practise their faith without unnecessary barriers to their education and training.

Barrister Imran Khan KC has published a detailed critique of the Mann Review, examining whether its commitment to “no hierarchy of discrimination” is reflected in its recommendations.

The article highlights evidence submitted by BIMA on disproportionality in disciplinary and regulatory processes, and wider concerns around parity, equity and meaningful engagement with affected healthcare communities.

BIMA continues to raise these concerns directly with the GMC, most recently through its Strategic Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Forum.

BIMA Lifesavers 2026 brought communities together across the UK and around the world to learn essential skills that could save a life.

From humble beginnings in 2013 with just three mosques and around 100 participants, Lifesavers has grown into a global community initiative.

This year:

25 countries worldwide
80+ UK mosques
Around 500 volunteers
Thousands trained in CPR, AED use, the recovery position and choking management

At the heart of Lifesavers are our healthcare professionals, students, mosque committees, community leaders, partners and volunteers who give their time to make practical lifesaving training accessible within trusted community settings.

A huge Jazakumullahu khayran to everyone who contributed to Lifesavers 2026.
