*Mapping London's Black History*

As Black History Month comes to a close, we want to take the opportunity to celebrate the diversity of Black history in London.

We've created this interactive map to share stories from notable Black Londoners across each of our 32 boroughs, plus the City of London. Each of the people featured has helped shape the city’s culture, communities and politics over many centuries.

We limited ourselves to just one story from each of London's 33 boroughs. This was hard. Each borough has many more stories we could have told.

Where possible, we’ve highlighted stories that are less widely known — moments and people who deserve to be remembered. And we've tried to capture a range of time periods and experiences across the city's history.

We were left very inspired by our recent visit to Branches Hostel’s new move-on accommodation – a welcoming base that will soon support people with experience of homelessness take their next steps towards independent living.

Branches has been providing shelter to single homeless people in Waltham Forest since 1996.

With support from our social investment programme, they were able to purchase and transform this property into a beautiful transition space for former hostel residents.

It needed a lot of work – and the job the team at Branches have done is truly inspiring.

This home will be a vital steppingstone on the journey from homelessness to stability, and it's a tangible illustration of the impact social investment can have.

We are all deeply saddened at Trust for London to learn that Luljeta Nuzi, founder of the Shpresa Programme, has passed away.

Luljeta was an incredible leader, who played a huge role in London’s civil society. Her legacy lives on through Shpresa, and the excellent work they continue to do to support London’s Albanian community.

Sad News from Shpresa Programme

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of the passing of our beloved Luljeta Nuzi, the founder and Chief Officer of Shpresa Programme.

Luljeta was more than a leader she was the heart and soul of our community.
For over two decades, she dedicated her life to supporting and empowering refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants, transforming countless lives through her tireless advocacy, compassion, and unwavering belief in justice and equality.

Some people leave footprints so deep in our hearts that we are never the same.
Luljeta was one of those rare and extraordinary individuals who touched everyone she met with her kindness, strength, and relentless drive to make the world a better place.
Whether you were a colleague, a friend, a service user, or even a stranger in need, she extended her hand with love and care.

Even in the most challenging times, Luljeta remained hopeful and determined, always believing that change was possible.
Her legacy of resilience, courage, and community spirit will continue to inspire us all.
We are committed to honoring her memory by continuing the work she started and upholding the values she held so dearly.

Me dhimbje të thellë dhe zemër të thyer, ndajmë lajmin e trishtë të ndarjes nga jeta të dashurës sonë Luljeta Nuzi, themeluese dhe Drejtoreshë Ekzekutive e Shpresa Programme.

Luljeta ishte më shumë se një lidere ajo ishte zemra dhe shpirti i komunitetit tonë.
Për më shumë se dy dekada, ajo ia kushtoi jetën mbështetjes dhe fuqizimit të refugjatëve, azilkërkuesve dhe migrantëve, duke ndryshuar jetën e mijëra njerëzve përmes përkushtimit të saj të palëkundur, dhembshurisë dhe besimit të saj të patundur në drejtësi dhe barazi.

Disa njerëz lënë gjurmë aq të thella në zemrat tona, sa nuk jemi më kurrë të njëjtët. Luljeta ishte një prej atyre njerëzve të rrallë dhe të jashtëzakonshëm që preku jetën e secilit që pati fatin ta njihte.
Me mirësinë, forcën dhe përkushtimin e saj, ajo u bë një dritë shprese për këdo—qoftë koleg, mik, përfitues shërbimesh apo edhe një i panjohur në nevojë.

Edhe në momentet më të vështira, Luljeta qëndroi e fortë dhe optimiste, duke besuar gjithmonë se ndryshimi është i mundur.
Trashëgimia e saj e qëndrueshmërisë, guximit dhe shpirtit komunitar do të vazhdojë të na frymëzojë përherë. Ne jemi të përkushtuar të nderojmë kujtimin e saj duke vazhduar punën dhe misionin që ajo ndërtoi me aq dashuri.

Shpresa Programme do të vazhdojë punën e saj si zakonisht, dhe kushdo që ka nevojë të kontaktojë, është i mirëpritur ta bëjë këtë.

Luljeta, do të mbetesh gjithmonë në zemrat tona. Pusho në paqe.
