WHAT TO DO IF YOU SEE A BAD PET SHOP.
We have had many reports of neglect and suffering in pets shops across the UK, many people are stuck with what to do, so we have drafted a simple post to help people who want to help us make the right change.
IF YOU’VE PURCHASED ANIMALS - Film and document all transactions and receipts, take the animals straight to a vet who has avian or exotic knowledge, get all disease testing done and have the vet report and document this, these animals are expensive so bare this in mind before even purchasing one and decide weather you can give them the complexities they need.
DOCUMENT EVIDENCE - This mean clear and high quality photos and videos, document the animals condition, food, water and enclosure, blurry and rush videos just simply are not good enough.
DRAFT EMAILS - email the licensing officer for the pet shops local council, email trading standards and even email the RSPCA, write down all names and ref numbers given for the case, we also welcome people to CC us in, our email is [email protected]
WITNESS STATEMENTS - Document all accounts clearly and as scientifically as you can, if your unsure of the species or what could cause the animal to be like this then msg us we have a vet nurse who can help identify possible reasons why and even go and visit the animals themselves.
WHAT COULD BE A BETTER APPROACH..
We are finding that social media is becoming more of a powerful tool to spread awareness of places people and get a public out cry, sometimes when these specific pages are set up it can be damaging to the long hours and days of work people have putting do all the above properly, you have to look at these cases as “how would this stand in court” good clear investigation work is key, unfortunately we have had people move animals or uthenise them before we can intervene because they have had a heads up on social media.
Please directly contact us in ways to help, we are always looking for people to join our team and help us in a professional way, we are not against publicly outing somone for animal abuse we would rather use this as a last resort before evidence is collected so none is lost.
If anyone has any reports on pet shops please DM us.
