Wave Walkers - Dragon Boat Team

Wave Walkers - Dragon Boat Team London's first dragon boat team for people affected by cancer. We welcome anyone to paddle with us. We meet every weekend at Royal Docks Adventure in London.

The sessions are for people affected by cancer: some of us have cancer, some of us had cancer, some of us support people affected by cancer. We have a range of fitness levels and we prioritise having fun on the water, improving individual fitness, and being part of a brilliant team! Wave Walkers is supported by Windy Pandas

We are back training in London. Not quite as picturesque as Venice! But we love our home at The Docklands Sailing & Watersports Centre | DSWC London. So good to see Andy back on the boat after a break and we also welcomed Peter to the team. We are always open to new members - get in touch if you are interested.

The last part of Vogalonga was the hardest, but we had a bit of rest at the bottle neck at Tre Archi, followed by a boost from the applause from the Spectators on the final push. Thank you to Secklow Hundred Dragon Boat Club for welcoming us back at the Venice Canoe & Dragon Boat ASD. Big shout out to all the teams we chatted to in Venice including the lovely Yorkshire Sharks Dragonboat Club , and Carlow Dragon Boat Club. Plus thanks for all the support received from Raging Dragons Dragonboat UK at home and from our team mate from Paddlers for Life. We all chatted to various teams - but cannot remember all your names! If you talked to us please say hi! You are always welcome to visit us in London x

We had a short snack break in Burano with bananas and water thrown successfully into the boat. This team from Hungary were very nice and let us go through their boat to get onto the land. Anyone know who they were? We would like to say thanks!

Once we got going the nerves fell away. Vogalonga invokes friendship and comradery and we certainly had that on Sunday. We want to give a huge shout out to Pauline from of Life, Breast Cancer Survivors' Dragon Boat Team who joined us literally at the last minute. Thank you Pauline for helping us and we hope you had a great time. We also had Cindy from Red Dragons Miami, Erika from Hungary and Dave from the US with us too. We loved making these new friendships and hope to paddle with you again one day.

Wave Walkers have done the Vogalonga many times over the last 15 or so years. Each time bring precious memories and experiences. I think we all felt a bit of trepidation this year. A few of us had health or fitness worries, quite a few of the team had been paddling less than a year, or had not done the Vogalonga before, and we felt excited and positive but daunted all at the same time. Here we are happy but maybe slightly nervous - waiting to get going at the Canoe & Dragon Boat ASD

It's not too late!! We'd love to welcome some new friends into our boat in Venice - we have 2 seats left so if you want to experience this epic event, get in touch.
