Wave Walk London to Oxford – walking for one of our own ❤️

On Saturday 24th October, Wave Walkers are swapping paddles for walking shoes to support a much-loved friend and fellow paddler who is living with metastatic cancer.

The medication she needs isn’t currently available through the NHS, so we’re raising funds to help pay for her treatment.

We’ll walk from our paddling home at Millwall Dock to Paddington, take the train to Radley, then walk along the Thames into Oxford, around 16 miles/ 7 hours on foot.

We’re a dragon boat team brought together by cancer, and one thing matters enormously to us: nobody should face it alone.

Every donation, however small, will help towards her treatment.

Love this video of the team getting together after a great paddle 💙

We’ve had a couple of weeks off recently, with all of our helms away in different places, so it was especially lovely to get everyone back on the water together.

We’re also incredibly proud that Wave Walkers now has three helms and one CL1 coach (soon to be CL2!) and they are all women.

Wave Walkers isn’t a women-only team, but we’re really proud to see women so well represented in our coaching and leadership. Representation matters in every sport - whether that’s gender, ethnicity, age, background or, in our case, being affected by cancer. It matters to see people like you not only taking part, but represented in the coaching, leadership and organisation that make this sport possible.

Here’s to more people seeing that there’s a place for them on the water..... at the helm and leading the way 💪🐉

Happy Paddleversary!

We love celebrating our team members and last weekend we got to celebrate a special milestone: a 5-year paddleversary!🤩🥳

Our members come to Wave Walkers at very different points in their lives. For some, cancer treatment and recovery are still very raw; others are a little further along in their journey. That mix of experiences is part of what makes our team so special.

No matter where you are in your journey, or what your relationship to cancer is, there is a place for you in the boat. 💙

A huge thank you to the organisers of the Cookham Regatta for such a wonderful dragon boat event! 🐉🚣‍♀️

We had a brilliant time taking a little day trip up the Thames, always good to get out of the smog!

For many of our team, this was their VERY FIRST time racing, and we are so proud of them! 💪💙 We didn’t quite make it through to the finals, but that just gave us more time to check out the raffle, the silent auction, have a go on the crocodile ride (nearly a dragon! 🐊😂), and sit back and watch the river go by.

A special thank you to Bourne Water Dragons for coming to our rescue when we found ourselves a paddler down - we’re looking forward to meeting up with you again!

Such a lovely day, and a great introduction to racing for our newer paddlers. 🐉✨

One of our team needs your help 💚

One of our Wave Walkers who wants to remain anonymous is going through cancer treatment and has hit a major roadblock. The treatment they need is not available on the NHS, which means it is not free or immediately accessible to them.

We can help them raise the funds they need to access this treatment privately.

Wave Walkers support each other and come together in times of need. If you’re able to donate, any contribution will help towards getting them the treatment they need.

And please share the fundraiser far and wide. The more people we can reach, the more chance we have of getting them to their target 💚

Another energetic training session this Sunday! 🐉💪
We share the dock with Raging Dragons Dragonboat UK, so this week we teamed up! It was a great opportunity to work with another team and to get a different perspective and feedback on your paddling skill and technique.

As always, we made sure the hard work was fun too, with plenty of laughs and, obviously, selfie breaks!😂

We were especially happy to have our helm Debs back with us, easing her way in after injury. And delighted to welcome two of our newer paddlers, who are taking to dragon boating like....well dragons to water! 🌊

Another brilliant morning of teamwork, training and fun on the water 😎🤩
