Our most recent grant round included a massive £57,550 funding contribution from a long-standing partner of our charitable mission, UBS. This contribution has provided 19 entrepreneurs at Launchpad and Incubator stage with grants to invest into their growing businesses.

The Hatch Fund was established in 2022 to enable business founders from diverse backgrounds to overcome barriers to growth typically faced by these groups in the startup sector.

The impact these grants are already having on those in receipt of the money shows just how crucial these grants are to support not only businesses and their possibility for innovations but also that boost of confidence that comes with securing funding and what that can do for the belief system of an entrepreneur and their venture moving forward.

The Hatch Enterprise team had the pleasure of attending the Funding Circle Fresher Fair last week, where we got the opportunity to talk to Funding Circle staff about the impact we’re making to democratise entrepreneurship in the UK through our programmatic and community-based support for underrepresented entrepreneurs across the country.

It was encouraging to hear from so many at the company who have already provided mentoring and friendly dragon support to entrepreneurs in the Hatch community. Plus, this brilliant opportunity to chat face-to-face with the Funding Circle team allowed us to sign up more volunteers for our post-programme support opportunities as we go into our third year of partnership with Funding Circle.

A massive thank you to Fransien Hermans and Reem Akl from Funding Circle for organising this opportunity for us to share our impact and to Felix Jackson Rishi Aila, Deryl Thatcher and Naomi Nathan from the Hatch team for representing our work at the fair!

Our mission to build a better world through entrepreneurship takes a village, and we’re so grateful to the Funding Circle team for embodying our values through their volunteering to further our charitable mission and give invaluable guidance to underrepresented entrepreneurs. Thank you, Funding Circle!

Meet the new Hatch Enterprise UK board observers, who are joining our collective mission to democratise entrepreneurship for underrepresented founders! We’re delighted to have such a diverse range of Board members and observers with an incredible breadth of experience, so here's a quick introduction to our newest joiners:

Jo Roach, Strategic Advisor & founder:
Jo’s extensive career history has built a specialism in technology and digital, helping organisations build tech that works for them. She’s passionate about the change and social impact possible from more underrepresented people taking up entrepreneurship and positions of power. Jo is a founder herself, too, having founded three businesses including Our Future Health UK, the UK’s largest-ever health research programme bringing people together to develop new ways to prevent, detect and treat diseases.

Kudzai Manungo, Product Manager at BlackRock:
Kudzai is a product manager currently working with one of Hatch’s longstanding partners, BlackRock. He has worked across diverse sectors, including travel, fashion and finance. His experience and understanding of the needs of diverse founders in building and scaling viable businesses will bring another unique and highly valuable perspective to the Hatch table.

Vanessa Belleau, Inclusive Workplace Consultant & founder:
Vanessa brings her 18+ years of experience across multiple industries including brand consultancy, strategy and corporate to Hatch. She is the founder and solopreneur of High Fifteen ltd, an inclusive high-performance culture consultancy. She’ll also be bringing her understanding as an underrepresented founder herself, and her passion for the third sector.

Alicia Grimes, Culture Designer & founder:
Alicia is the co-founder of culture consultancy The Future Kind, who comes with previous experience of our work as a mentor for our community of entrepreneurs and a financial supporter of our mission through a profit percentage contribution through The Future Kind! These ties to our mission and 15+ years of experience in service design make Alicia another welcomed observer.

Last Tuesday, we hosted a values session that brought together some of our long-term trustees Anne-Helene Sinha Teyssedre, Thomas Schreiber, Tania Rahman and our new Board observers with the Hatch team. We reflected on our current values and considered what we could build on to bring those values to life day to day at Hatch ❤️

£100,000 has been awarded between ten founders in the Hatch community thanks to a grant funding round in partnership with NatWest Business to celebrate our tenth anniversary. We’re thrilled to announce that ten entrepreneurs have each been awarded £10,000 through the grant pot, which was set up to enable business founders from diverse backgrounds a step up in overcoming barriers to growth typically faced by these groups in the start-up sector.

Founders in receipt of the 10x10 grant funding:
Elaine Macey, founder of 4Motion CIC
Véronique Mbida, founder of Bantu Chocolate
Zaynab Sohawon, founder of Emotion Dysregulation in Autism

Rebecca Norris, founder of Rebecca Norris Designs
Kelly Wright, founder of The Refillery UK
Ian Timbrell, founder of More Than Flags And Rainbows

The perfect way to celebrate our tenth anniversary, this grant pot will uplift founders from across the UK to access critical levers for growth such as innovation costs, marketing campaigns, personal development opportunities and equipment purchasing.

NatWest has been a long-standing supporter of Hatch, donating £1 million pounds last year to accelerate our work and, in turn, the grant funding we’re able to put in the hands of underrepresented founders across the country.

Join us in celebrating the ten successful grantees and this next step towards our charitable mission of an equitable entrepreneurial landscape for underrepresented founders 👏

Purple Moon Drama is providing vital upskilling opportunities to young creatives across the capital, helping them secure work in an already underfunded sector.

With limited opportunities for emerging creatives to gain experience, the struggle of breaking into the arts sector is compounded by barriers faced by young people from marginalised backgrounds.

Purple Moon Drama is a testament to what real impact can look like for young people breaking into the arts, and what can happen when they're given a chance to take on leadership roles and responsibility in a safe and encouraging environment💖
