Summer connection: It doesn't have to cost a thing
Summer holidays can sometimes feel like a long list of things to organise, places to go and activities to find. But from an attachment perspective, some of the most valuable summer moments are often the simplest ones.
Try:
• Letting your child choose what to play for 10 minutes – and joining in.
• Going for a walk and following their curiosity: “I wonder where that ant is going?”
• Making a den out of blankets and cushions.
• Having a picnic on the floor.
• Looking at the clouds and making up stories about what you can see.
• Getting outside with a ball, a bucket of water or a handful of chalk.
• Sitting together with a book, even if it's one you've read 100 times.
• Letting them teach you how to play their favourite game.

You don't need to make every day memorable. Connection doesn't need a plan. Sometimes, it just needs you.

As the summer holidays unfold, there are so many opportunities to simply delight in our children.

It doesn’t have to be a big day out or an expensive activity ...... A shared joke, joining in their game, noticing what makes them laugh...... This summer, perhaps we can slow down, follow their lead and take time to notice the joy in being together, creating powerful moments of connection

Because our children need to know not only that we love them, but that we genuinely enjoy them too.

Today is International Day of Play – a reminder that play isn't 'just play'. It's one of the ways children feel connected, understood and loved.

When we get down on the floor, be silly, kick a ball or build a den, we're doing more than having fun. We're strengthening the connection that helps children feel safe and secure.

So today, find a little time to play, laugh and simply be together, the washing can wait!

Infant Mental Health Week 2026: Attunement

This year's theme, Attunement, reflects everything that sits at the heart of Circle of Security Parenting (COS-P) and our ethos at Connected Lives.

When parents and carers notice, understand and respond to their baby's emotional needs, babies learn that they are safe, important and loved. These early, attuned relationships help children learn to regulate their emotions and build the foundations for good lifelong mental health.

Through our Circle of Security Parenting (COS-P) courses, we help parents and carers understand their child's emotional world and the importance of being a secure base and safe haven for their children.

We believe attunement doesn't require perfect parenting - it's about being good enough. It is the everyday moments of connection, comfort and repair that help babies thrive and give them the very best start in life.

Because strong relationships shape healthy resilient futures.

💚 Mental Health Awareness Week

From birth, we're built to connect. Research tells us that safe relationships are the foundation of good mental health.

Connected Lives is proud to be supporting Mental Health Awareness Week. This year's theme is simple but powerful: real change happens when we take action - for yourself, for someone else, and for your community.

And it starts with one small, secure step.

Why not try:
Having one honest conversation with yourself
Checking in with a friend
Doing one act of kindness in your community

That's real change and we can all make it happen
