Race on the Agenda - ROTA Race on the Agenda (ROTA) is one of Britain's leading anti-racist change drivers. Together, we will end systemic racism in Britain.

Working with communities impacted by systemic racism, ROTA helps create the policies and practices to tackle inequality. Originally set up in 1984, ROTA aims to support and amplify the work of anti-racist organisations across the country as they work to bring equality to their communities. This will be a powerful conversation rooted not in what Black and Global Majority communities are missing, but in what we already hold knowledge, leadership, creativity and power. This about how we can build together.
 
We’re delighted to welcome Lennina Ofori as our guest speaker.
 

Lennina is a social entrepreneur and systems change consultant with more than 20 years’ experience across children’s services, community work and the arts. Her work brings together research, lived experience and storytelling to imagine and design systems rooted in dignity, equity and lasting change.
 
Together, we’ll explore what it means to move beyond imagining a different world and towards building the systems, structures and futures we know are possible.

For over 40 years, ROTA has worked to challenge the systems that hold racial inequality in place - in policing, housing, health, education and employment rather than manage their symptoms one at a time. This year, we’re turning that lens on what comes next: not just hope, but a plan.

Every year we partner with ten outstanding Peer Researchers from the Black and Global Majority communities

Just like Xaira who through the Race on the Agenda’s Community Research Partnership (RCRP) got the opportunity to research rhe hidden mental health impacts of sickle cell. A topic close to home. A topic under researched.

We cannot hope to challenge racism and structural in equities if we don’t understand their scale and won’t understand their scale if the research sector continues to under – represent voices from the black and global majority community.

Today, we’re proud to share For My Sister a short film exploring how community-led research has uncovered the profound mental health impact of sickle cell within Black British communities.

Featuring Xaira Olaifa-Adebayo one of Race on the Agenda’s Peer Researchers, the film shares her sister’s experience of medical negligence alongside sickle cell activist Simply Sayo’s story of losing her sister to sickle cell.
 
Together, these stories reflect the realities of Black women supporting loved ones living with sickle cell, while highlighting the wider social and structural factors that shape health outcomes and wellbeing.
 
This research was made possible through the Race on the Agenda Community Research Partnership (RCRP), our flagship community research programme.
 
A huge thank you to everyone who brought this project to life, including the Media Trust team, our director Mia, Peer Researcher Xaira Olaifa, and the wider ROTA team.

Race on the Agenda stands in solidarity with every Black and Global Majority person, migrant community, and refugee family caught up in the violence that swept through Belfast last night.

What we witnessed was not a protest.
These are racist hate crimes.

We remain concerned about about how some politicians continue to use irresponsible language, that only serves to divide us.

It is political opportunism, plain and simple.

Black women deserve to be protected.

There is a silent crisis in the UK a growing number of Black Women in the UK are going missing, yet many cases continue to recieve inadequate support from officials and a lack of media attention.
