Our incredible volunteers are at the heart of everything we do 💙

Each of them has their own reason for giving their time and energy to help us work towards a future where no man dies of prostate cancer.

This Volunteers' Week, we asked our volunteers what supporting Prostate Cancer UK means to them.

👏 Thank you to Terry, Martin, Janet, Jahmeil, Ken, Tony, Jay and every single volunteer making a difference.

When Bob was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in 2023, he began hormone therapy straight away.

Just a few weeks later, he also began chemotherapy - the very same combination of treatments being studied in our INTENSIFY trial.

This approach isn’t commonly used so soon after diagnosis. But that’s exactly why our researchers are studying it.

If the INTENSIFY trial shows it can help, it could change how men are treated in the future - and, most importantly, give men like Bob more time with the people they love.

Your support could help make that possible.

BIG NEWS 📢

The Government has announced up to £18 million in additional funding for TRANSFORM - recognising the crucial role our trial is playing in shaping the future of prostate cancer screening.

This investment means all eligible Black men aged 45 to 74 will be invited to take part in the trial, significantly increasing participation among men at higher risk.

It comes after the UK National Screening Committee’s final recommendation to screen only men with BRCA2 gene variations who also have a family history of the disease.

That’s why today’s additional funding marks a historic moment.

It will help us continue to generate the evidence needed for a safe, accurate and effective screening programme for all men.

A key challenge in treating advanced prostate cancer is knowing the right time to step up treatment ⏱️

Most men begin with hormone therapy, and chemotherapy is usually added only if the cancer worsens.

This helps delay side effects, but could starting earlier make a difference?

Our INTENSIFY trial is exploring whether introducing chemotherapy sooner, while the cancer is still responding to hormone therapy, could help men with more advanced disease live longer.

This research could help shape more personalised, effective treatment in the future.

Every year since 2018, Jerry has taken on March for Men with his friends and family 🚶

At 56, a routine check with his GP led to a PSA blood test and a prostate cancer diagnosis that changed everything for him.

Jerry was a single dad at the time and telling his son, Tom, about his diagnosis was the hardest part.

Jerry told us: "My cancer diagnosis had an impact on me mentally. The thought of Tom going through what I'm going through is really upsetting."

He’s found strength and support through his son, his partner Ali and our Specialist Nurses 💙

Join us to help fund lifesaving research and vital support and for men and their families like Jerry's.

📆 Walk 2.5km, 5km, 10km or 20km starting in Battersea Park, London, on Saturday 13 June.

AI could make prostate cancer monitoring more precise. But what does that mean in practice? 🤔

By building a clearer picture of each man’s cancer, this research could help doctors:

👉 Reduce unnecessary tests and biopsies
👉 Focus monitoring where it’s needed most
👉 Spot changes earlier

It’s about making active surveillance more precise and better tailored to the individual - using all the available information.

When life gives you potatoes, carry them on your back for 57 miles? 🥔

Jack and Harvey work with their dad, Peter, as part of their family business, supplying potatoes to fish and chip shops across North Wales and Chester.

After Peter was successfully treated for prostate cancer the pair felt driven to give something back.

They're planning to deliver a 25kg sack of potatoes on foot from their unit in Wrexham to a fish and chip shop in Barmouth 🐟

The duo hopes to complete the challenge in around 28 hours with no sleep and will share lifting duties of the giant sack.

They have also enlisted the help of Wrexham AFC, including manager Phil Parkinson, who put the boys – and the giant bag – through their paces at the STōK Cae Ras.

💙 The challenge is a brilliant demonstration of people coming together against prostate cancer, to give more dads like Peter as much time as possible with the people they love.

👏 We're wishing the brothers the best of luck with the spud-tacular challenge ahead!

Active surveillance is a way of monitoring localised (early) prostate cancer, rather than treating it straight away 🔍

But tracking changes over time relies on a mix of PSA blood tests, MRI scans and biopsies to check on the cancer - and each one only tells part of the story.

🤖 We’re funding research using AI to bring this information together into one clearer picture of a man’s cancer.

The aim is to support better decisions about active surveillance - including which men are suitable, how often tests are needed and when treatment might be required.
