Remembering Harbinder Singh Ghattora, also known as Binda Dholi🙏🏽

Today, we say goodbye to someone who has been a very special part of the Desi Radio family for almost 24 years. We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear friend and fellow presenter, Harbinder Singh Ghattora.

For so many years, Harbinder’s voice brought the joy of Panjabi music into people’s homes and lives. His love for Bhangra was clear for everyone to hear, and every program was a reflection of his passion for the music, the culture and the traditions that meant so much to him.

But Harbinder was so much more than a radio presenter. He was a gifted dhol player, a dedicated teacher and someone who genuinely cared about passing on his knowledge and love of Panjabi culture to others. As the founder of The Great Indian Dancers, the UK’s first Bhangra group, established in 1966, he played an important part in keeping Bhangra alive and sharing it with generations to come.

Harbinder had a real love for what he did, and he shared that love with everyone around him. Through his music and his dedication to our culture, he inspired so many people and helped keep our traditions close to our hearts.

You will be missed. Rest in peace, Harbinder Ji.
Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family, friends and all those who knew and loved him during this difficult time. 🙏🏽

We are saddened to share the news of the passing of Nirmal Pounj, the legendary lead singer and founder of Shava Shava, whose voice became part of the golden era of UK Bhangra.

Nirmal was a truly gifted singer, lyricist, composer, and producer. You could feel his heart and soul in every song. From his days with Kala Preet to the Shava Shava albums.

His music brings back precious memories of cassette tapes, weddings, dance floors and the unforgettable sounds of the ’80s and early ’90s.

Our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and fans around the world who loved and cherished his music.

His voice may be silent, but his music will live on forever.

Rest in Peace, 🙏🏽
