No more awkward giggles, no more delayed appointments, no more suffering in silence. It’s time we talk about gynaecological health as openly as any other part of our body. It should not be a taboo. Speaking up, knowing the signs of the 5 gynae cancers, and booking your screenings isn’t something to shy away from. We have to look after our Lady Gardens like our life depends on it (because it really does!). Shattering stigmas saves lives. 💗

We are heading to Diddly Squat Farm Shop and we would love you to join us. On Sunday 23 August at 11am, the Lady Garden team will be there for a chat, a laugh and a proper talk about women’s health 🌸

We will also be marking a year since the Lady Garden Foundation V***a Lake opened at the farm shop, a moment that got so many people talking about the five gynaecological cancers and why early detection matters so much.

No question is too awkward, and no symptom is too small to mention. We will be on hand with information about the five gynae cancers, how to know your normal, and why speaking up early can make all the difference.

We will also have Lady Garden merch with us on the day, if you fancy picking something up and supporting the cause at the same time.

Sixty women are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer every day in the UK. Today, we’re asking three government ministers to do something about it.

For Yvette Cooper, we’re calling for action on health: clearer public health messaging, better GP training to recognise the warning signs, funding to support HPV vaccination follow-up in schools, and continued investment in research.

For Lucy Powell, we’re calling for better education: the HPV vaccine, all five gynaecological cancers and their symptoms should be clearly covered in the new RSHE guidance, with this education continuing through to 18 rather than stopping at 16.

For Bridget Phillipson, we’re calling for gynaecological cancer to remain a government-wide priority: using her cross-government role to bring health and education together, so that the work happening across both areas is joined up and making a real difference.

Here’s what the answers reveal.
1️⃣ A cervical screening test only checks the cervix. It cannot detect ovarian, womb, v***al or vaginal cancers, and most of these cancers have no routine screening at all.
2️⃣ That is why knowing your own body matters so much. You are usually the first person to notice when something changes, and that noticing can be the start of a conversation, an appointment, an early diagnosis.
3️⃣ Spotting the signs is not down to women alone, though. Partners, friends, colleagues and families all play a part in recognising symptoms and encouraging women to get checked.
4️⃣ The same goes for HPV. It is not only linked to cervical, vaginal and v***al cancers, but also a**l, pe**le and some mouth and throat cancers, so awareness of it matters for everyone.

Despite affecting 4 out of 5 of us, the confusion, and stigma, around it is still way too high. So for today’s F***y Fact Friday, we’re clearing up the biggest misperceptions around Human Papillomavirus (HPV).

To start: it’s very common, completely normal, and nothing to feel ashamed of. In fact, most people will contract it at some point, experience zero symptoms, and clear it naturally without ever knowing!

While we are here to break that stigma down, we also need you to learn how to protect yourself from high-risk strains that can lead to cervical cell changes. The good news? Nearly 99.8% of cervical cancer cases are preventable thanks to vaccination and regular screening. Swipe through to learn more.
