Ian Nepomniachtchi vs Vishy Anand, Round 1 of the Sinquefield Cup. White played 1. Kc4 allowing 1....b5+ 2. axb6 Nxb6+ and his rook was lost. Instead, 1. Kc5 Rd7 2. Ra8 followed by 3. a6 would have saved the game. If only Ian had received lesson 25 of the CSC curriculum on Discovered Attacks!

Today at Clara Grant Primary in Bow we'll be playing a variant: Maharaja Chess, a favourite of our friends CSC Teesside. Black plays with a full set of pieces. White has only one piece, but what a piece! The Maharaja moves like a Queen AND a Knight, a deadly force.

White wins the game by checkmate, Black by capturing the Maharaja. If Black defends all of her pieces correctly, she wins, but give the Maharaja a chance and he's lethal!

🐘Let battle commence.🐘
