With the festive season just a few months away, we need your help to design the SarcoidosisUK 2026 Christmas Card!โ €

The winning entrant will have their design featured on the front of our 2026 Christmas cards and receive a voucher for the SarcoidosisUK Shop. We will be accepting submissions until the 14th October and the winner will be announced at the start of November. Please submit your designs by emailing them to [email protected].

What is Cardiac Sarcoidosis?

Cardiac sarcoidosis affects up to a third of all sarcoidosis patients. The heart can be affected by sarcoidosis in two ways. Firstly, sarcoidosis can occur in the heart muscle itself (cardiac sarcoidosis). Secondly, the heart may be indirectly affected as a result of sarcoidosis in the lungs (pulmonary hypertension). This post looks at the symptoms, tests, and treatment options for when the heart muscle is affected by sarcoidosis itself.

Sarcoidosis affects everyone differently. Two patients with the same cardiac sarcoidosis diagnosis may have varying symptoms at different levels of severity, over different time periods.

We would like to say a HUGE thank you to Gemma for completing the Belfast Half Marathon last weekend. Thank you ๐ŸŽ‰

"I chose to fundraise for SarcoidosisUK as my daddy was diagnosed with this condition in 2019 when he was just 50 years old! Itโ€™s had a huge impact on his health and how he lives his life. The SarcoidosisUK Nurse Helpline has helped him in the past and itโ€™s a service he is always thankful for.

Itโ€™s a condition so many people have asked me about since I started my fundraising as they had never heard of it before, so Iโ€™m happy that I was able to raise some awareness!

I understand SarcoidosisUK are 100% reliant on voluntary donations! I am glad that I was able to help in a little way!"

Today is World Lung Day ๐Ÿซ

In about 90% of patients, sarcoidosis affects the lungs and/or lymph glands. This is known as 'Pulmonary Sarcoidosis'.

Granulomas can gather in the lungs, disrupting the uptake of oxygen and can also result in scarring, limiting lung capacity. These granuloma may develop around the lymphatic (or โ€˜lymphโ€™) system of the lungs, which is an important part of the immune system that circulates the immune cells in the body.

Sarcoidosis affects people differently and often follows an unpredictable course. Most patients with pulmonary sarcoidosis recover within a few years; sometimes no treatment is needed. Some patients are more severely affected with symptoms worsening over time โ€“ more prolonged treatment may be necessary. This is known as chronic sarcoidosis.

Alex again has organised a fishing competition and raffle in aid of SarcoidosisUK, in loving memory of his mum, Julie Dawson. Thank you to everyone involved and a huge congratulations to the five winners of the day!

โ€œI lost my mum nearly five years ago to sarcoidosis, and her loss completely changed both my dadโ€™s world and mine. The past five years have been incredibly difficult, but they have also given us a different perspective on life and reminded us of the importance of making every moment count.

Four years ago, I decided I wanted to do something positive in Mumโ€™s memory. With the incredible support of my family and friends, along with the team at Izaak Walton Fishery and Ianโ€™s Fishing Tackle, we organised this charity fishing competition and raffle to raise awareness of sarcoidosis and support SarcoidosisUK.

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended, took part, donated prizes, gave their time, offered their support or contributed so generously. Your kindness and generosity made the event incredibly special and far more successful than we could ever have imagined.

Most importantly, thank you for helping us keep Mumโ€™s memory alive and for supporting such an important cause. Your support means more to my dad and me than words can say.โ€

Professor James Galloway discusses the current field of sarcoidosis research and how this research could lead to more targeted and personalised treatments. Sarcoidosis affects everyone differently, but there are patterns that researchers and clinicians can investigate to try to delve deeper into how sarcoidosis is caused, triggered, and treated.

Today, we're saying goodbye to Eva and wishing her good luck as she embarks on her next adventure! ๐ŸŒŸ

Eva joined us nearly four years ago, and has spent much of her time responsible for fundraising, most recently as Marketing and Fundraising Manager. Despite economic challenges affecting the charity sector as a whole, Eva has been successful in maintaining our income. She does this with great humour, positivity and amazing support for our fundraisers and the whole SarcoidosisUK community.

We are looking forward to seeing all the amazing things she will achieve in her next role and are truly grateful for everything she has accomplished with us. Thank you!

We are delighted to have been awarded a grant from the for our Nurse Helpline!

Francesca, who you may know from her amazing live music fundraising events in memory of Jacqueline Byrne, nominated us for Nationwide's 2026 Nationwide Colleague Grant programme and we're so excited that it was awarded. Thank you Francesca!

Our Nurse Helpline is a vital support service for sarcoidosis patients, giving patients the opportunity to talk to someone who truly understands what they're going through. Last week, our nurses made call number 5,000!!

Together, we will ensure that no-one is facing sarcoidosis alone. Thank you so much and Francesca ๐Ÿ’™
