We welcome these words from the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Sarah Mullally, as well as the deep pain shared by the Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth, Sir Ephraim Mirvis. These words are an important acknowledgment of the deep historical and spiritual connection that the Jewish people have to the land of Israel, alongside Christians and Muslims. It is essential that we recognise this is a land that many feel tied to and that we listen to the many perspectives of those that are linked to it. We agree that it has become harder to hear one another; the work of CCJ strives to do just this. We welcome all those who wish to do likewise to join us in this important work.

Thank you to Archbishop of Canterbury Sarah Mullally ‘for taking the time to bear witness, listen, and stand in solidarity with those affected by the events of 7 October’ at this important exhibit.

We were honoured to welcome The Archbishop of Canterbury to the Nova Exhibition in London.

Accompanied by her husband, she spent over an hour carefully walking through the exhibition, meeting survivors and bereaved family members, and listening to their stories with great compassion and attention.

The Council of Christians and Jews are delighted to congratulate CCJ Vice President Henry Grunwald KC on his CBE in the King’s Birthday Honours List.

His award is in recognition of his work as Chair of the National Holocaust Centre and Museum, and we commend him for his service not only to the NHMC but many communal organisations including CCJ.

The Trustees and all at CCJ thank him for his wisdom, support and friendship.

Stand with CCJ against antisemitism

Join the upcoming rally to stand strong together and extinguish antisemitism.

On Sunday 10 May at 1 pm in Central London,
join us and thousands of others as we walk together.

The appalling attack in Golders Green one week ago, and a series of attacks on synagogues and Jewish charities, makes it vital that people of all faiths and none stand together against antisemitism.

CCJ is sad to learn of the passing of our former Chair and longtime champion, the Rt Revd Lord Harries of Pentregarth. Lord Harries was chair of CCJ from 1992 to 2001 and was later a Vice-President. He was a consistent and outspoken advocate for Jewish-Christian and wider interfaith relations and was a key proponent for the Lambeth Conference in 1988 where the Bishops of the Anglican Communion agreed a document called Jews, Christians and Muslims: The Way of Dialogue.

It was under Lord Harries' chairmanship that CCJ began the process of expanding CCJ’s Presidents to include the heads of all Jewish denominations and CCJ, in particular, remembers his courageous advocacy for the Jewish community and his passion for Jewish-Christian dialogue.

All of us at CCJ including staff, trustees, former Chairs including Lord Bishop Michael Ipgrave, and the wider community that Lord Harries so impacted, wish to join his family and friends in mourning this tremendous leader. His prophetic voice will be sorely missed.

We are devastated by the news today of another horrific attack and stabbing of two Jewish people in Golders Green. We're relieved to hear that the victims are stable and we pray for a speedy and full recovery.
