96% of children in our projects continue their education past 14 - nearly double the national average in the communities we work in.

But that number doesn't capture the girl who started believing she was worth educating.

The mother who began asking different questions about her daughter's future.
The group of female farmers who learned drought-resistant growing using polytunnels and then watched the technique spread across the landscape, far beyond anything our project could claim or measure.

The most meaningful changes we see are the ones we can't put in a spreadsheet. We measure what we can. But we've learned to value what we can't - trusting the ripples of change, from over 45 years experience, happen every single day and change lives.

If this kind of transformation matters to you, you can be part of it.

Week 5 of our Spring Karuna Appeal is underway.
Here are some snaps of our incredible volunteers who are going out every evening knocking on people's doors throughout London, and spreading the work we do to alleviate suffering in South Asia.
Please comment some well wishes to them for their final 2 weeks as they endeavor to meet more Karuna supporters and a huge thank you to those who have already felt moved to give to our projects and vital work.

We'd like you to meet Trisha 🌸

Trisha started fundraising for Karuna on International Women's Day to support safer menstruation for women and girls affected by menstrual exile in rural Nepal. She's been close to this issue for a long time.

Her Master's thesis in Architecture looked at how menstrual exile takes shape in both rural and urban Nepal, from the Chhaupadi huts that families build outside the home to the quieter ways women are kept apart in modern households.

In her own words: "This cause advocates for basic human rights and women's health, both of which continue to be challenged by the deep-rooted stigma surrounding menstruation in many rural and urban parts of Nepal."

Thank you, Trisha. Her page is still live! Support her fundraising:

Cake for a cause 🍰

Trisha's bake sale was round two of her International Women's Day fundraiser for Karuna, and it brought in another wonderful contribution. All of it goes towards our work helping end menstrual exile in rural Nepal.

To Trisha, and to everyone who baked, bought, and gave: thank you.

Her JustGiving page is still open:

Six weeks. Doors knocked. Conversations had. Funds raised for communities across India, Bangladesh and Nepal.

Our spring appeal is one of the most important things we do, because the projects it supports aren't short-term fixes. They're about building lasting possibilities through education and support in places where poverty and exclusion have closed too many doors.

We'll be introducing you to some of the volunteers making this campaign happen over the coming weeks. Today, meet Sergey.

She did it ✂️!

Trisha has chopped off years of hair to raise money for Karuna's work ending menstrual exile in rural Nepal. We are so grateful.

Menstrual exile pushes women and girls out of their homes, schools, and daily lives, often in silence. Trisha wanted her support to be loud and visible, and a haircut this big certainly is.

For six weeks, you might find one of our fundraisers at your door. They're part of a campaign raising funds for projects across India, Bangladesh and Nepal; projects working towards gender equality, education and the kind of freedom every human being deserves.

Compassion and generosity are easy to talk about. Putting them into action takes something more: time, courage, and the willingness to have real conversations with strangers about things that matter.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be introducing you to some of the volunteers doing exactly that. Today, meet Kathy.

Over half of girls in marginalised communities across India, Nepal and Bangladesh are taken out of school and married before they turn 18. One in three is married before the age of 13.

Child marriage and girls' education are two sides of the same story. When a girl marries young, her schooling almost always ends. When her schooling ends, her future narrows.

In our latest blog, we look at why this is still happening, what's keeping girls out of the classroom, and how our partners are working alongside families and entire communities to break the cycle.
