HAPPY NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK TO ALL OUR AVPB VOLUNTEERS!

Here at AVPB we currently have 2 part time staff and over 60 volunteers. We would not be
able to deliver our life changing educational programmes without them!

We are indebted to their generosity, hard work, and commitment. All our volunteers help create the welcoming, thoughtful and compassionate organisation that AVPB strives to be.

Through their time, care and commitment, people are given opportunities to reflect, learn
and discover new ways of responding to conflict.

THANK YOU AVPB VOLUNTEERS!

DID YOU KNOW?

The first AVP workshop was delivered in 1975, at Greenhaven Prison in New York.

‘AVP’ was INITIALLY developed by a group of prisoners in Greenhaven prison, who had witnessed the Attica Correctional Facility prison riots, and were also concerned about the rising number of young men being imprisoned for minor offences and then returning for more serious and violent offences.

They formed the project along with the Society of Friends (Quakers), Eddie Ellis (a prisoner who later became recognised for his work on prison reform), and Bernard Lafayette (a freedom march activist, working closely with Martin Luther J king).

May Mr Lafayette Rest in Peace.

AVP branches are active now in over 60 countries worldwide! We work to spread the message of peace, and help people develop nonviolent conflict resolution skills.

IMPROVE YOUR SELF ESTEEM WITH AVPB

Here at AVPB, we believe that it takes some work to develop good self esteem, but it is worth putting in to improve your confidence.

Having a good self esteem helps to make and keep positive relationships, and it makes it
easier to overcome harder challenges.

Some ways to improve your self esteem include:
• Taking pride in your positive qualities, and reminding yourself of your strengths
• Viewing mistakes as learning opportunities and chances to grow
• Being kind, and helping to improve the lives of other people

For more ways to improve your self esteem, and explore how it can help you to build healthier relationships and overcome challenges peacefully, sign up to an AVPB workshop today!

*AVP INSIGHT: WHAT IS TRANSFORMING POWER?*

Here at AVP, we believe that if we respect ourselves, and care for others, then life can
change in surprising ways for the better!

We call this ‘*Transforming Power’*

This helps us build better relationships, handle conflicts peacefully and solve problems.

But how do we respect ourselves and care for others? Here at AVP, we believe it helps to:
● Think before reacting
● Look for a non-violent path
● Expect the best, from ourselves and others (when it is safe to do so)

To learn more about transforming power, and other AVP teachings, sign up to a May Level 1
Workshop, online or in-person at our London office! To book tickets, visit:
