The Befrienders!

The Befrienders! In partnership with Age UK Brent, we pair up a volunteer Befriender with an isolated elderly person in the community. Why not drop in and visit us?

The Befrienders are a diverse group of friendly individuals who are committed to overcoming isolation and loneliness in their communities, particularly among the elderly. They then meet up once a week for a chat, cup of tea or a walk to the local park. This may not sound like very much, but it can be amazingly powerful! Just the feeling that someone is interested in you can prevent depression and

delay the symptoms of dementia. Based in Rumi's Cave, we are also continuously thinking of innovative ways to use the space to bring people together. We'd love to have your input and try out your ideas! Our address is 26 Willesden Lane, NW6 7ST. If you'd like to join us, or just find out more, please email [email protected] - we'd be very happy to hear from you!

Who are we? The Befrienders is a new community initiative run by Ulfa Aid. Ulfa Aid is a charity set up by Shaykh Ahmad Babikir, the Imam at Yusuf Islam's Islamia School, in 2004. Internationally, we work to provide shelter for those who are homeless. We have previously run housing projects in Pakistan and Indonesia in the aftermath of natural disasters, and are currently working on the ground to help the homeless and those in inadequate housing in Sudan. More recently, we have begun UK-based projects, to serve our community locally. The Befrienders marks Ulfa Aid's first steps towards bringing people together to support the elderly. We are also currently running a project for the homeless called Rumi's Kitchen - check us out on facebook! Ulfa Aid: Connecting Hearts, Minds, and Communities.
