At the end of last week, we said a very special goodbye to Sue Hutton, our Assistant Director of Nursing, who retired after nearly 13 years at St John’s Hospice. 💙

Much to Sue’s embarrassment, we weren’t going to let her leave without a proper send-off! Hosted at our Wellbeing Centre, the celebration was made even more special by homemade cakes from colleagues and a ‘Farewell Sue’ banner created by some of our patients.

It was a small way of thanking Sue for everything she has contributed during her time at St John’s and to celebrate the incredible difference she has made to the lives of so many colleagues, patients and families.

Sue will be greatly missed by everyone who has had the pleasure of working with her. Please join us in thanking Sue and wishing her a very happy and well-deserved retirement!

Today, we would like to celebrate our brilliant London Marathon runner Eleanor! As part of Team St John’s, Eleanor ran the extra mile in memory of her Mum, Lucy, and raised an incredible £6,882 ⭐️.

“Before Mum died, I knew very little about hospices or end-of-life care. Now I understand just how important they are, and I can't think of a better reason to take on a challenge or raise money especially in memory of a loved one.”

We’re so grateful to Eleanor for her support and hard work, it has truly made a big difference for the people we care for.

It’s day 5 of our Thank-A-Thon! Today, we’re saying a huge thank you to the wonderful Teresa, supervisor of our on-site Coffee Shop.

Over the years, Teresa has taken on several incredible challenges for St John’s, raising an amazing £11,000+ to support our hospice.

Now, she’s taking on her next challenge – the Thames Path Ultra Challenge – walking 100km alongside the brilliant Bee, our Inpatient Unit Manager.

“We’re taking on this challenge for St John’s Hospice because no one should have to navigate the end of their life, or the loss of a loved one, alone. St John’s brings, comfort, dignity and warmth to patients and their loved ones when it matters the most. Walking 100km is a huge challenge, but it’s nothing compared to the courage of the people the hospice cares for every day.”

We’re sending a huge thank you and good luck to them both for everything they do!

This week, we’re celebrating the incredible supporters who help us make a difference at St John’s Hospice by saying a very big thank you. Next up is Winkworth St John's Wood, West Hampstead, Maida Vale & Belsize Park who have been supporting our hospice for more than 13 years!

It all started with their St John’s Wood branch, just a stone’s throw from the hospice, and their support has grown from strength to strength over the years.

From sponsoring events like our Easter Egg-Stravaganza, joining us at events including our Annual Charity Gala and Summer Garden Party, and supporting our fundraising campaigns, to hosting their own DIY fundraisers across their branches in North West London, they’ve been there for us in so many ways.

The support of local businesses like Winkworth, alongside the generosity of their employees, helps us continue providing compassionate and holistic care to people in our community. We’re incredibly grateful for everything they do. 💙

Today, we’re saying a huge thank you to Anthony!

Since 2015, Anthony has taken on the London 10K almost every year in memory of his brother, Joseph, raising an incredible £6,500+ for St John’s Hospice along the way.

“I run the 10K to thank St John’s for all the help and care they showed my brother Joseph, my family and his own family during a very difficult time. It is an honour to raise money for such a wonderful hospice.”

We’re so grateful to supporters like Anthony, who continue to give back to St John’s and help us provide the same compassionate care and support to other patients and families when they need it most.

Thank you, Anthony, for your incredible support over the years! 💙

Day 2 of our Thank-A-Thon! Today, we’re celebrating the wonderful El and Ed, who chose to support St John’s Hospice on their special day. 🤍🥂

As part of their wedding celebrations, El and Ed asked their guests to donate to St John’s Hospice instead of giving them traditional gifts. Together, their guests raised an incredible £1,018 to support our work!

“We both chose a charity for our wedding, and I knew without a doubt I wanted to choose St John’s Hospice, having seen firsthand the incredible work they do. We were happy to have the chance to share their work with our guests, who generously helped us raise the money!”

Their generosity will help fund our free palliative care ambulance service for two days, helping patients travel safely to and from the hospice and attend hospital appointments.

A huge thank you to El and Ed for choosing to make a difference as part of their wedding celebrations – and congratulations to you both. From everyone at St John’s Hospice, we’re wishing you many happy years together!
