I can't even begin to estimate how many people have contacted me over 20 years saying they thought they had lupus but they couldn't get anyone to believe them. Often they had very clear symptoms that made me urge them to be persistent and not to give up as lupus was definitely a possibility.

It makes me sad that in 2026, doctors are still missing the signs, GP's run blood tests that aren't enough on their own, when they come back showing nothing the GP dismisses lupus.

If I had one last message to give out it would be this: 'if you have looked up the symptoms of lupus and you are manifesting several of them, ask to see a rheumatologist, if for no other reason than to rule it out. Insist on getting to the bottom of it, you shouldn't be suffering and be dismissed. No one should live a life of pain, if it's not lupus it's still something and you need to know what'.
