🇮🇹 Conclusion: Citizenship as an Unalienable Constitutional Right

My conclusion is clear — and it is not only philosophical, but strictly legal.

If you are born Italian, you are Italian. Not because the State grants it, but because the law recognises a status that already exists.

⚖️ The Constitutional Framework

The Italian Constitution provides a powerful and coherent system of protection:

• Article 22

“No one may be deprived, for political reasons, of legal capacity, citizenship, or name.”
This establishes a fundamental principle: citizenship cannot be arbitrarily removed.

In recent weeks, Italy has found itself at the centre of a profound legal and moral question: Can a nation limit the transmission of its own identity? A Reflection from Rimini
During my holiday in Italy, I had the chance to visit the Meeting of Rimini, an extraordinary gathering inspired by the vision of Father Luigi Giussani. His emphasis on freedom, dignity, and faith resonated deeply with me.
It reminded me of another Italian story that shaped the United States: Amadeo Peter Giannini, the son of Italian immigrants who founded the Bank of America. Giannini believed in giving opportunities to ordinary people—immigrants, workers, and small businesses—long before it was fashionable. His vision of economic freedom and trust in human potential parallels, in its own way, Giussani’s conviction that freedom is the irreducible condition of man.
Two legacies—Giussani and Giannini—different in context but united in spirit, remind us that the encounter between Italy and the United States has often produced not just economic or political results, but profound cultural contributions rooted in faith and freedom.
A visit to Rimini became for me not only a holiday stop, but also an occasion for reflection on how values can cross oceans and inspire generations.
