Last week at The Ecology Park were still raking and removing cut grass in the Dry Meadow. We rake and remove to help REMOVE nutrients from the very rich soil. High nutrient soil promotes nettles and thistle whereas a low nutrient soil promotes wildflowers. It's an annual task.
This week we will be tidying the Alexandra AVE entrance to the park. Come join us tomorrow 10 am to 12 noon. We meet near the glass fronted cabinet at the Rayner's Lane entrance.

It is the time of the year that meadows are mowed which results in....The Big Rake Off. There is a Whole lot of Raking going on. You too can get in on the Big Rake Off by joining us tomorrow, Saturday, from 10 to 12 noon The Ecology Park. We meet near the glass fronted cabinet at the Rayner's Lane entrance. No prior raking skill required. We will provide tools, gloves, and a snack, and of course, training where necessary. Be there or you don't get another chance to show off your Raking skills for another year!!!! Hope to see you at Newton Farm Ecology Park tomorrow.

It's still warm enough in The Ecology Park to see Southern Green Shiledbugs, Hairy Shildbugs, Butterflies and more. When we are cutting the meadows you find so much. All the insects which have been maturing over the summer are full grown with wings so can fly away if we get too close to them. Come help us tomorrow Saturday from 10 to 12 noon. We meet near the glass fronted cabinets at the Rayner's Lane entrance to the park.

The Autumn meadow cuts are in full swing. Last week we met at our usual time, 10 am till noon, to spruce up The Ecology Park. Those who visit might notice that we have cut back a cherry tree near the path. It has been slowly sagging till it was lying at a 30 degree angle to the ground and we feared it might go down in the wind over the path so we donned hard hats and grabbed the pole saw for a serious cut back. Autumn meadow cuts are going well. The Dry Meadow and parts of the Wet Meadow are due to be cut by a two-wheeled tractor near the end of next week, possibly the 19th weather permitting.
Come to our regular Saturday working party tomorrow 10 till 12 noon and help us get ready for our Saturday evening event: Moth and Bats at The Ecology Park 8 pm till 11 pm. Meet at the glass fronted cabinet at the Rayner's Lane entrance to the park.
