At The Ecology Park last Saturday, the wonderful volunteers continued to cut dry vegetation near trees in hopes that if a fire does break out it will not readily spread. It was cool under the iconic White Willows and we finished up in good time. Thanks to Peter Davies Julia Foyle Richard Imran and Josh for excellent work. Of course there was rubbish to clear up as well. One of my strongest wishes is for much less littering to go on and for people to dispose of things properly. Sigh....
This week will do a litter pick of our lovely stream. Meet us by the glass fronted cabinet at the Rayner's Lane entrance to the park. Bring gum boots if you have them!

Not a great view from Wood Farm at the moment. The viewpoint panel which has helped thousands of visitors enjoy the panoramic view of beautiful London has had a shocking pink makeover. Harrow Council Harrow Online We will try our graffiti remover but really....no words for this moronic behaviour.

Newton Farm Ecology Park continued a bit of cut back around margins of our very dry meadows. This is to create a small break between the main meadow and the trees. Conditions continue to be very dry although insects are finding the cool green shoots underneath a welcome refuge. Cutting back always leads to a bit of litter picking and last week was no exception. Jo and Peter both found interesting things; an old relish bottle ( I do like a bit of old blue bottle!), a bubble wand with soap and the hand protector off a delivery bike. Meet us every Saturday at the glass fronted cabinet by the Rayner's Lane entrance to the Ecology Park at 10:00 am. We work till noon

No rain for quite a while means we need to cut fire breaks at The Ecology Park which is just what the # volunteers are doing at the moment. We completed breaks in the New and Autumn Meadows and this week will be in the Dry Meadow. Much of the grass is unusually dry but at ground level there are still insects hunkering down and trying to live through this extended rainless period. The Wet Meadow is, thankfully, still green so provides a refuge for local insects and birds. One noticeable thing is the amount of unremoved dried dog poo along path margins. Dog walkers are urged to "do the right thing" and bag up and bin dog waste. We meet every Saturday morning from 10 AM to 12 noon. Meet us at the glass-fronted cabinet at the Rayner's Lane entrance!

Every Saturday morning the Ecology Park meet at 10:00 AM near the glass fronted cabinet at the Rayner's Lane entrance to the park. All are welcome to come lend a hand weekly or whenever you can. Last week's session involved cutting back along the entrance to the car park and participating the the annual Big Butterfly count. We saw so many lovely butterflies including Painted Lady, Red Admiral, and Small Copper ( my personal favourite). I admit that I forgot to take any photos so the ones below are mixed. Some from The Ecology Park and others from around the borough including Clouded Yellow at Bentley Priory. The warm weather is good for the butterflies.

Last Saturday the volunteers cut back the vegetation which had grown into the pedestrian pavement along the Rayner's Lane edge. There was more there than first met the eye but the job was finished and tidied up in record time. Thanks go to Peter Davies Julia Foyle Mahesh Richard Mike and Waleed. Despite the dry conditions, we saw plenty of insects too!

Last week at our regular Saturday morning conservation event we did our best to prepare for an afternoon BioBlitz. Volunteers checked paths and cleared litter. Special thanks to Peter Davies who cleared a spot for the gazebo and it was needed as it turned out to be very hot. Hope you enjoy a few pics of the things we found. Join us this Saturday and every Saturday morning from 10 am to 12:00 noon as we help in the Ecology Park.
