An event to look at and identify birds, plants, insects, animals and maybe a lichen or two. Anything living is โ€œfair gameโ€. You help find them; we identify them. There will be bird watching walks and general wandering to find plants and insects throughout the day.

Come with hat and sunscreen and sensible shoes!

The Newton Farm Ecology Park volunteers have continued to work on the two last very hot Saturday mornings. We just worked in the shade! The shady entrance on Rayner's Lane is the perfect place to work if it's too hot in the sun and there was plenty to do. We continued to open out the area adjacent to the entrance as it was a bit overgrown. As an experiment, and after an insect survey, we have removed some ground ivy. For whatever reason there was little living in it perhaps due to the overshadowing evergreen hedge of the football field. Thanks to Mike, Richard, Peter, Julia, Mahesh, and Jo. It looks pretty much completed.
This week we will be trimming around paths. Why don't you join us tomorrow and every Saturday from 10 am to 12 noon. We meet at the glass fronted cabinet at the Rayners Lane entrance.

Last Saturday at The Ecology Park did some cutting back at the entrance. Nearly everyone who visits walks past and the entrance has some lovely features. Behind the "entrance" Dogwood a line of Broom bushes are hiding. After them are scattered Elder bushes and a carpet of variegated Yellow Archangel. You also get a view of the row of now mature Field Maples planted 30 years ago. Hope you like what we've done. Come and join us any Saturday morning from 10am to noon. We volunteers meet at the glass fronted cabinet at the Rayners Lane entrance. Hope to see you there.
